The other day, I witnessed out bantam Rooster Pasquale attempting to mate with our standard Langshan, Bea. It was comical... amounting to nothing more than his getting a piggy back ride while humping the air.
This got me curious... how do the bantam versions of the standard breeds get started? If Pat had been the Langshan and Bea was the Roo, I'd be worried the bantie would be squashed/hurt. But a bantie roo on a large standard female appears hopeless.
Do you have to find an in-between sized breed to use as a stepping-stone between the sizes? Is there some way to artificially mate them?
I'm not interested in actually crossing Pasquale and Bea... just curious how getting a big breed into bantam form works.
