My grandfather told me a story of when he had a broody hen, he would let her set for about a week, then at night, he would put chicks under her and when she awoke she would find a new batch of chicks and totally except them. Never thought of trying it, does anyone know if this works?

Last Sunday I hatched out 10 Phoenix's, My hens just hatched out 5 babies, I took the Phoenix's and put them underneath them and they accepted them as if they were there's from the beginning. Some hens will accept the chicks and some will not. I had tried this little trick with another hen and believe me it didn't work, I guess she knew... LOL. But you just have to try it but observe her...If she's a good mommie she will accept them but if not they should be taken away immediately, because they will peck at the heads trying to injure or kill the chicks...
