Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Yesterday we went to see "Jersey Boys" - the story of Franky Valli and the Four Seasons. If you are from that era (yeah I'm dating myself there) it's interesting and informative. It was good entertainment (not great) - well directed and adequately acted. I rate it worth the time and money spent on it - 3 stars.

Thanks Sour. I am old enough but, was never a fan of their "yi yi yi" ugh!! Anyway the critics had said the play was fantastic, the movie (Eastwood behind it) was not!!

I'm glad you didn't think it a waste of money. I hate when that happens. I've used up too many gift cards finding out something was rotten.

It's soon to be my birthday and I have been hinting to my brother about the dine-in theatres. We have one. I read him your review but so far.... no response. To be honest though, the theatre only shows one movie and it hasn't been one we want to see. Maybe my son will take me for Xmas.
Oh no, instant visions of ice and snow and ice and more ice and - zero temps. Still beats mosquitoes.

Today we saw "Ida". The story of an orphan girl in Poland about to take her vows as a nun , and then she discovers that she is Jewish. Black and white with sub titles - Elaine hated it. I found it to be quite interesting. Not sure that I would recommend it for everyone.

It does sound interesting Sour. They will never have it out here - only movies they think will make a zillion dollars with the young folks. I know I will never get to see it, so if it isn't breaking any of your sacred vows - could you please pm me & tell how it ends??? I promise never to repeat it

There is a smaller theater (4 or 5 shows) that generally has something interesting when all the 'bigger' shows have already been seen. It draws an older crowd. The Princess and I were the youngest by far in the entire theater. She said they must have all come from a Polish senior citizen's home.

My brother nixed the idea of going to see "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," Sunday, even though his favorite critic from Wallstreet Journal (huh!) loved it. Despite that I am planning to see it Monday. I've never seen any of the series but, the newest trailer interested me soo....

Sorry I am more than a day late and few dollars short: naps happen when you are OLD.

I did see Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and I liked it very, very much. The apes make much better humans than people do. I tend to escape into movies, so I found it totally acceptable that apes could ride horses, and fire guns. I think a few sessions at a shooting range would boost their
accuracy.

One character in the movie points out that all they do, is without electricity , high tech devices etc. The next movie is already in the works - I hope they don't end up in suburbia, texting each other instead of talking.

Friday is "S*X Tape(comedy) with Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal (love him - he is so average but, not) It is R rating so I may need to have people PM me for a review if I can't find a way to make my comments acceptable. I DO respect the BYC audience is of all ages, religions, points of view.

Went to see "Begin Again" with mixed anticipation. Really went to see if Adam Levine could act. He was not bad - pretty natural in his role. The Princess would probably give the movie 3.5 stars. For me it was about 2.5 stars. Pretty good entertainment.

Thank you Sour.

I have been reading very good reviews for "Boyhood," which is supposed to open Friday wide release. Of course I can only find it at two Chicago theatres. Suburbanites aren't worthy of really good movie releases I guess.

It's getting to be such an old tune, very frustrating. By the time the really good ones are available for rental, I have forgotten what they are about.
