Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

I saw "Now You See Me," this morning because of your comments, Sour. I thought it was very entertaining and like you I didn't expect that ending. glad I put my faith in you and not the critics.

This coming weekend, I'm going to see "Man of Steel.''

Now I have to do some research on "The Eye of Horus (??) I have heard of that before maybe just Lord of the Rings mythology. Also bought myself the Warm Bodies DVD for my birthday next month.

It's not a recent movie, I think from 2011, but I just wanted to suggest "Great Expectations" that is a PBS Masterpiece product. It was really good, and so much better than other GE movies I've seen.

Sorry I have been remiss in reporting guys, I'll try to do better.

Last week I saw "THIS IS THE END". I was too embarrassed to admit I had even gone to see it. They bill it as rude, crude and worse things but, critic after critic kept saying it was hysterical, or the funniest movie they had ever seen. I dumbly believed them.

I am no prude but, this drek of a movie pushed well beyond any censorship limits. Calling it porno would be more appropriate. I was the odd one in the audience(an oldie) among mostly male high school age guys and some older. I never heard any laughter - in fact I never heard anything. I think even the young people were in disbelief that censors allowed it to be seen.

I gamely held on till the end, hoping I would dissolve in laughter at some point, It never happened. It has to be the worst movie I have ever seen. I left the theatre deciding I would never trust movie critics again . A week later, the thought of it - still has a bitter taste. Maybe antacids would help. I sincerely hope this IS THE END, and they never come out with anything remotely like it.

Friday I saw "WWZ," you know the big war with the zombies & Brad Pitt. I was more impressed with the zombies. They weren't your grandmother's zombies - they didn't lumber about bumping into things - these zombies were fleet of foot, great athletes and had problem solving skills. There was little gore. The action was frantic enough that I didn't notice the 2.5 hrs. slipping past. There were enough thrills & chills to keep me entertained . Though I couldn't help thinking that anyone could have taken Brad's part and done it better.

I remember Brad from his early days as the stud muffin in "Thelma & Louise," many years ago. I had such hopes for him. Alas he still needs to hone his acting skills. Other cast members were unknown to me but, turned in better performances. It wasn't a great movie but, it was a good movie. If you have time to spare and like to draw strength from an air conditioned theatre this movie should fill the bill.

Next up should be "White House Down and then Lone Ranger & Tonto

PS Anyone who has seen "Man of Steel" please review it for us.

HALF OF "WHITEHOUSE DOWN," was very good - then at a 'breath holding scene' the movie screen went black. I was the first to find my voice and that remark cannot be printed here.

Eventually an employee came in and explained to us that the power must have gone out because of the heat. (it was in the 70's that day). She came back a second time to tell us to stay in our seats since the lobby was filled with people asking for refunds. The third time she walked in she said "It was storming and thundering." ***. It was a gorgeous day, cool, breezy, beautiful blue sky, white fluffy clouds and NOT A DROP of rain anywhere. At that point I walked out and joined the line in the lobby getting free tickets to come back another day.

It's a terrible feeling when the adrenaline is pumping full blast and you can't fight and there is no where to flee. Outside I discovered the entire shopping mall was shut down. No apparent reason for the electric company glitch. I started the 5.5 miles walk home and dropped into the senior transportation office to tell them I wasn't going to be at the show for my pickup. The dispatcher made arrangements for another bus to take me home.

I'm still upset- about the 'Whitehouse interruptus ' I have the free ticket to go back but, I don't want to sit thru an hour of movie that I already know what happens. I want to start at the point where the screen blacked out. Dang it all.

Hope to be in a better mood Monday when I see the rest of the movie - I hope. It's not supposed to rain that day either.

well I saw the last half of White House Down and it deteriorated in to a chaotic jumble ,- going off in several directions and coming together only for a very predictable end. Lots of action and explosions to keep everyone awake but just not satisfying.

Aha, I saw a good movie Friday - HEAT - it was actually' laugh out loud funny' not, smile sorta funny. Hurray.

I didn't think I would like it but I read Dean Richards review - I consider him a classy guy - and he called it his "pick of the week." I really enjoyed this movie, I would see it again. Instead of the usual cop buddy-buddy movie - Heat is about two women cop & FBI agent who are as different from each other as day and night. There is great chemistry here and I believe it persists beyond the silver screen. There is some bad language, drug references, and some gore & blood but the laughs are in abundance. I hope there will be a sequel . Definitely
