Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

Kaitie I'll be awaiting your review as well. I'd also like to know if it is enjoyable to people who never read the book. Maybe that's a good thing - nothing to compare it too. I do love Leo.

I have never read the book. One of my friends posted a review on Facebook, She read the book and this is what she said:

My thoughts on the new Great Gatsby movie (no spoilers, but the book has been out for quite a while lol). I saw the movie on graduation night with a group of friends. My expectation was low, especially after seeing the ridiculous trailers for it. Basically long story short I was totally blown away when I finally watched it. I read the book in 11th grade so I knew the basic plot of it, but since it was years ago since I read it, I forgot a lot of the finer details. But from what I remembered, the movie truly brought it to life for me, everything I imagined and more. I honestly know that there are probably parts that the movie may have added or lost from the book - but in all honesty, I don't care. What's wrong with movies adding their own twists to things? For the most part it covered the major plot nicely, so why not let it have it's own interpretation of the book? No one said it had to be the "true" vision of it. Even the soundtrack works - mixing something old with something new. Let's be real. We know back in the day those people aren't dancing to Jay Z, everyone knows that. But in this day and age, the general public would be bored and not feel the same impact of the music. I think the music represents the movie well, even when it is being serious. I love that this movie does its own thing. It doesn't abuse the dr. t.j. eckleburg imagery, instead it plays up the lighthouse and comet. From both the book and the older movie, the dr. t.j. eckleburg imagery is over powering, so I like that the movie adds in other images. Finally I love the depiction of Jay Gatsby. I honestly don't remember much of his character in the book, so I couldn't tell you if the movie is being loyal or not. But what I do know is that I love this Gatsby more, and I actually cared about him because of the growth he made. I'm not a huge fan of Leo, I only really like him in Inception to be honest, but **** did he create such a charismatic Gatsby that everyone will remember. He made Gatsby very human; therefore I actually cared for the guy. I love all those little traits that Leo gave him. So in conclusion I think the film was great, and I truly believe it brought that world alive. So what if it does its own thing? If you want the true version of it then read the book. But for the most part, I think it does follow the book close enough (Lol its nothing like The Lost World "Jurassic Park 2" that does not even attempt to follow the book whatsoever). Go see it, especially in 3D. Seriously I think it blows Avatar out of the water in terms of using 3D, I don't even think anything was 3D other than the vegetation lol.

I can't give enough thumbs for The Hobbit. I've watched it 8 times and NEVER watch it at 3am because I got WAY over emotional about Thorin almost dying, and then hugging Bilbo. Same warning for when Borimir dies in the fellowship of the ring. I CRIED. I have NEVER cried during a movie.it never affected me until I watched it at 3am. I lost it at : "My brother. :hit My king."

Sean Bean was Boramir and from what I read he is a well known Die-r you know someone who dies in every movie or show he is in. My son showed me a video of many of his gruesome deaths. Apparently he had a nasty death in"'Game of Thrones." What a shame ,he is a very good actor and deserves to last thru movie and TV credits. Sean thinks it's funny.

Saw " Star Trek into Darkness" it was action packed , and rather intense at the end. I'm not the biggest Star Trek fan but, I really enjoyed it. I've especially never cared for the original James Kirk, you know the actor that now does ads for Priceline.com. He was always such a randy, lewd character that I couldn't mentally separate him from his TV role and what he might be like in real life. So I'm thrilled the prequel doesn't have the new character being as swarmy (yet ).

Spock played by Zachary Quinto stole the show in my book. He used to play the horrible villain Sylar in the "Heroes "series. It's great to see him playing a good guy character.

This version kinda tramples a lot of 'Star Trek' principles but, I didn't care. My son(27) who usually says "I didn't like it." after every movie, this time reported " It was fun and watchable " which I'm going to figure as 3 stars.

Tomorrow I am going to see it again with my brother - who never cared for Star Trek and didn't watch it often. It will be interesting to see his take on it because he won't be comparing it to the original series and never saw the old movies.

Saw Gatsby last night. Overall I liked it. It is not a movie just to go an enjoy though, you have to concentrate to understand it all. For some reason I had it in my mind before that Gatsby could somehow live forever, but that was completely wrong, so the real plot seemed a little dull for me. There were some funny parts that had everyone laughing, but the movie seemed to go by really slowly.

Went back and saw Star Trek again this morning. Really glad I did because at the end I noticed something I had missed the first time. It changed the ending for me.

My brother came too, he really liked the movie and gave it a 3- 1 1/2 rating - he seems to be stuck on that number for everything he sees. In fact I had a mild argument with him when he said he would have given my favorite "Warm Bodies," the same rating. Men !!
