Current Movies - Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN

I just saw Thor 2 yesterday at the theaters. If you're into that superhero stuff, then you'd love it! I think it's the best movie I've seen since spring. It has such a cool twist and ending! You have to see the first Thor and The Avengers to fully understand it. There was even a surprise appearance from Captain America! I'm not a tomboy but for some reason I really get into those superhero movies. But yes, you should definitely see it. :thumbsup

Yes, it was a great movie, and to discover more of Loki's talents. I love the super hero and action movies, and often I am the only(old) woman in the theatre surrounded by either elderly men or high school dudes. I'm the one doing all the cheering or laughing. I also like movies with strong female characters that can save themselves.

Thank you for your comments. Did you see Thor in Imax? I heard that those who did, got a special preview of Captain America - the Winter Soldier. I've had a crush on him since he was "Johnny Storm" in the old "Fantastic Four" movies.

My favorite part was when
Loki pretended to be evil and cut off Thor's arm but then you found out it was all an illusion from Loki and part of thier plan together.
I almost jumped out if my seat.

I did not see Thor in IMAX, but I did still get to see the preview for The Winter Soldier! I can't wait to see it!!!! "God bless America!"

Okay so just found this thread...quite informative and entertaining!

so now I have Prisoners, Captian-somethingoranother, and Enders game on my list to go see. I thought there was another one you guys liked but now cant remember what it was. should have written it down.

I don't have real TV so I don't see preview adverts (and don't want to) so I am thrilled to find people who see movies who can tell me what's worth seeing (don't trust critics at all)

Oh, man. I was sooooo looking forward to seeing Captain Phillips. Halfway through I was so seasick I had to leave. Seriously! I guess that attests to how real they made it.

pysankigirl loads of great movies - Rush, Captain Phillips, 12 Years a Slave, Texas Buyers Club - not out in my area yet but, Sourland loved it. In my book Sour is a highly regarded source.

Hoping I get to see" Hunger Games - Catching Fire" usually when the biggies hit our theatre they go straight to Imax (even tho our show doesn't have true Imax) and they ramp up the admission quite a bit. I usually have to wait a week or two till they have it in "plain showing," with no sur charge.

After you see a movie please come back to give us your comments. It doesn't matter it if has already been reviewed by someone else or if you don't agree with our opinion. I like to have pro and con reports.

Yay Chicks, I'm surprised I didn't get seasick watching Captain Phillips. I guess I was too busy feeling claustrophobic when they were all stuffed into that small vessel. I've found that one phobia cancels out another.

I just discovered my show has "Dallas Buyers Club", as well as "Hunger Game: Catching Fire." slated for Friday. Probably see Catching Fire Friday, my brother doesn't want to see that. So hopefully brother and I will see Dallas Buyers Club on Sunday -

All I need is a loan for tickets.

Hunger Games-Catching Fire didn't quite live up to my expectations. I thought it would rush out of the starting gate fast and furious. Rather it seemed to limp from one political machination to another. Along with the frequent admonition to Katniss that she needed to try much harder to convince the public that she truly was in love with Peeta, it bored me.

"Catching Fire ',didn't until the quarter quell games began. Thankfully that pushed it's rating with me to 3 stars. The performance of the main characters has improved greatly. Rather than duking it out in an arena this time, the tributes found themselves in more a rain forest setting. The surroundings were so dark it was hard to tell the bad guys from the good allies. Apart from dodging mayhem from competing tributes, they had huge, aggressive monkeys , poisonous fog, drenching rain and unusually nasty lightning to contend with.

I haven't read any of the books so I was unprepared for a twist near the end. I wonder if there were clues leading up to that, and hadn't noticed.

I caught an invterview on line, this morning where the character "President Snow (Donald Sutherland) said it was obvious that Katniss was the one he was grooming to take over the presidency. That was why he was relentlessly hard on her. That was something else I missed. I thought he was just determined to kill her.

The last movie, in the series, "The Mocking Jay " will be in two parts- the better to squeeze extra $$$$ from fans.

To fully enjoy Catching Fire, please get enough sleep and be clear headed- I'm sure you will comprehend more than I did.

I finally got to see "DALLAS BUYERS CLUB," it was well worth the wait and touched me in ways I didn't expect. I give it 5 stars , my brother felt it was worth 4. THIS is the picture to beat on Oscar night.

Sourland reviewed this movie previously- please go to post 238 for his succinct commentary.
