Custom Coop Design and Construction

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I have tossed around the thought of having two doors (solid door for the cold months and a screen door for the summer months). I have the material so I may just add that to my list of things to do. The location of the coop and run is situated under a very large oak tree canopy so we get a good amount of shade and breeze but ventilation is definitely something I have on the forefront of my mind during this planning process.

Here's a few pics of mine during construction. Seems similar to what you're planning. And I too have a smallish access door to reach in for clean out. I may add a door to the side one of these days cause it's a long reach all the way in. Hope these help.

It's made from a 4x4x6 shipping crate. Flip up front vent window stays open as long as the weather is warm, cracked open during cooler weather and can close during freezing weather. That's a feeder on the front, 4" pvc and lasts 4 days for 10 chickens. I've also added an automatic door with light sensor and solar panel, works great! Hope all this helps you some.

Thanks so much, I greatly appreciate the pictures, definitely very similar to what I have in mind. I have just begun construction, started with the 4x4 base legs and 2x4 base frame. I am going to pick up plywood floor to anchor that down this week and begin framing my walls up. I will post pics as I go along. Thanks again!

I put my bottom "runners" on concrete blocks. It'll help to prevent them from rotting. The chickens love staying under the coop during the day. There's shade and I think the breeze is funneled under it a little too.

Here is a few photos of my coop, similar size but with sides that open up for cleaning up poop. I used pocket screws for the framing, made it so easy to assemble.

These little coop with the monitor roofs are pretty cool,
never understood tho why they don't include the basic premise of the cupola being a ventilation function. Both sides of cupola should be open, not sided, maybe with top hinged covers and of course protected by HC.
