Custom Coop Design and Construction

Here is a few photos of my coop, similar size but with sides that open up for cleaning up poop. I used pocket screws for the framing, made it so easy to assemble.

That's a really nice build. I too agree, opening vents on the upper sides would be perfect.

These little coop with the monitor roofs are pretty cool,
never understood tho why they don't include the basic premise of the cupola being a ventilation function. Both sides of cupola should be open, not sided, maybe with top hinged covers and of course protected by HC.

When I built the coop I put vents on each end and under the eaves you just can't see them and they are protected by 1/2" hardware cloth.

I seen the open eves on both the cupola and roof. Need to look at pix before roofing panels installed.

That's all the photos I have right now, the over hang of the roofs are vents as well as the ends of the copula and one down low on the end. I'll get some new photos of the inside when I fix a few things up, but right now I have to get the 5' chain link fence finished before the new chicks explode out of the brooder.

Ah, I get it, open eaves are good.
Still think vents on both sides of cupola 'walls' would create a better draw,
the cross breeze created pulls air thru the rest of 'building' and out.
Maybe not appropriate for small coop 'building',
tho might be highly advantageous in a hot climate,
but that's what that roof configuration was designed to do.

Here is the first step of our coop base that my boys and I got put together this past week. This weekend we will add two support joists, the floor and begin wall framing. I've been very busy with work and coaching so right now we are moving at a slow pace but will get after it in the next week or two.

I added the two additional center 4x4 posts on alternate sides of the center joist for just more support, had them so might as well use them. Obviously the area underneath the coop will be raised enough for the girls to maneuver underneath the coop in shade, I figured they wouldn't be too bothered by the two extra posts to prevent any floor sagging.

Looking good, my first group loved to go under the coop when it was hot outside. I put hardware cloth around it with a small chicken opening and when scared they would all run under the coop. One of the modifications I'm making now is to make some removable frames with hardware cloth so I can clean under the coop.
