CX gone crazy? Please help

A problem child at 5 wks gets turned into dinner. They are HUGE at 8 wks, and you do not want to deal with a 8 lb jerk, they are hard to handle.

don't clean with hydrogen peroxide, it just prolongs the bleeding and prevents scabbing from happening (you want scabbing, it's the blood clotting and closing the wound)

just use blue coat, that's what it was made for (clean off dirt and mud, obviously)

Question now.....exactly how much room do they really need? They have almost 2.5 sq ft per bird and everything that I have read from some of the "BIG" boys that run pastured poultry only have 1.5 sq ft per bird. ????

I suppose that depends on your goal. When are you planning to process? Did you say 8 weeks? I would think that your space is ok that long. Remember that the big boys don't really care about the well being of their birds as long as they get big fast, so they don't really need much room to move around, just eat. If you are trying to give them a good (if brief) life, that is a different matter.

Myhubbycalls.........You're sqft/bird is fine. Not sure what started this pecking/cannablism, as I have never had this problem. Is there any chance a predator drew first blood, and the chickens took it from there?

Sorry, I was basing my info on my LF 8 week olds (that by weight, from what I read, seem to be about the size of 5 wk CX) and they were really tight at about 4 sq ft. in the run and about 2 sq ft in the coop. Or at least they seemed to be. I know CX's aren't as active, and that is the reason I said, that the space seemed ok. My understanding of "big boys" was that they are the big processors. The guys who barely give the birds room to turn around. My apologies to you. I spoke out of turn.

by what my grandma says is that the rain makes their feathers wet and different so they get confused on whose who and try to fight the stranger not actually knowing that it is the same group as them. but just clean them up and separate them
