Aaaah. Even though I've never seen a Call in real life I've seen lots of pics and have fallen in love with their diminutive size, stout bills, round heads and bodies and super cute faces. If I could get my hands on one I'd never let him go.

Ah. I misunderstood. I wouldn't be willing to ship it because I know nothing about shipping ducks in general, and every responsible breeder I've ever talked with or read about refuses to ship young Bantam ducklings. You had said a while back that you were willing to fly somewhere for a ducking that hadn't been outdoors, so I was going to give you one and meet you at the airport so you wouldn't have to spend money renting a car. (We're about an hour from the Philly airport.)I'm open to the idea, but I'd have a really hard time selling the G1 babies and as I said, my hubby is very dead set on another Call, not just for sizing (Wobbles is VERY small, even for a Call Duck) but for compatibility and breed specs. He's fallen in love with their round cheeks and personable nature. Not to say BEI's aren't also friendly, but Wobs is the only duck he knows and, well, he's a creature of habit, and he'd also rather hold off and get a snowy or chocolate.
I'm torn, I'd love to have a buddy for Wobs and I'm pretty desperate for him to bond with ANY other duck, but on the other hand 1) I also want a Call, 2) I'd be paranoid about shipping a duckling and 3) I couldn't forgive myself if something happened to your baby en route!
Please don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to be manipulative. My hubby is my best friend, and he's not going to be upset about EI ducklings. He adores ducks in general (kind of skittish about Runners), and he loved the EIs at the shows we went to. Him not knowing really wasn't my intention in the beginning, but then he just assumed everything was Calls, so it became kind of a point of amusement for me to not tell him otherwise.I can see why, after all that's how black call ducks were created. But since Wobbles is show-quality Hils would tell from the larger beak and flat head. Also I kinda already told him the differences between the breeds. Dang it! Hehe...oh well. I couldn't be manipulative or underhanded if I tried, especially not to him. I'm a terrible liar.

I wish. My living situation is not conducive to owning ducks but I love them and am kinda obsessed with them. I joined the thread for entertainment and learning about these unique little ducks. I do own a pair of zebra finches that I love very much. Birds are wonderful and it's neat to see and meet other bird/duck lovers out there.I thought all along that you had hatched some Calls recently and that was why you had joined this thread. I'm not sure now who that was, but I got you mixed up with someone else.
yes. I get it totally even though I don't own a Call. Like you're into them I am into zebra finches. People often suggest I get a parrot at some point but I don't want to because I love the zebras so much. There is just a cuteness to a miniature bird/duck that's perfectly proportioned. Plus the personalities...OH GOD THE CUTE FACES! Yes! I'm obsessed with their teenyness and chubby cheeks! I often forget just how tiny Wobbles is until we pas by some mallards on our daily walks. They are HUGE by comparison.
Oh no no please, forgive me if I inferred that you were! I was just making a joke, really. Like "Hmm, you sure this is a call duck, honey?"Ah. I misunderstood. The expense would probably still be significant just from the flight (doubled if hubby were to come along) since you two are on the complete opposite side of the country from us. I was just trying to think of anything I could do to help you with this Wobbles dilemma.

I guarantee he'll be thrilled with any duckling that isn't a Runner. He caught me the other day looking at pics of some tiny chicks and scowled at me and said, "I'm telling you right now, if anything pops out of those eggs with a beak instead of a bill, we're going to have problems." LOL.
Actually while this is an excepted theory its also told that the blue coloration was bred many times over and over by some breeders in holland. While the ducks kept being bred some of the offspring began to get darker and eventually became black, this one was the one I've gone bye and is the accepted theory of the BCDC (The British call duck Club)I can see why, after all that's how black call ducks were created. But since Wobbles is show-quality Hils would tell from the larger beak and flat head.
