Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Around here they do, but most of my hens die of natural causes

OK, not to sound morbid and mean because I do love birds and yes I do eat them, I did find your statement funny.

I'm really worried, the vet thinks it's a congenital defect so that means the same thing could happen to Pancake. She couldn't find any problems with her, her liver was fine, she had food in her stomach, no signs of infection, nothing. She also confirmed that yes, Milkshake was in fact a little girl. Our little baby girl...

She was just so happy and lively...I can't believe how fast it all happened...
I hope it is not a congenital defect. I am glad Pancake is still going in for her/his visit tomorrow. Sweet little angel...

Oh amykins I'm so sorry! She was loved and well taken care of while she was here. Take comfort in knowing that she never had to go without food, water, warmth, and love. Sending prayers your way.

@Julie bird

I just realized that you have been posting. With your new profile pic I didn't recognize you. I was like who is this new person who knows all about what has been happening?

Ya, 18angovem, it's me, Julie Bird, I changed the pic several days ago. I have been following everything and to be honest with you, it's been hard seeing what's been happening with Amykins' Milkshake.

Yes, I know it is terrible!!! I know now that if it is genetic I have to get rid of my pair..... Or at least separate them and not sell or hatch any of their eggs. And Oh poor milkshake!! She had such a good life ahead of her!

You are so right, she would have had a great life. If the death was due to faulty genes then I hope you keep your pair but separated as you said. With anything in nature, humans included, genetic issues sure can be messy and tragic.

It would be hard to say if it was genetic unless others were born with the same problem. Just because something "can" be genetic, doesn't mean the it "is". Sometimes it can just be a very unfortunate fluke. I'm sure that some kind of blood tests and/or biopsies could be done to research more if someone had the money to do that. Otherwise it would be a matter of studying current and future offspring.
