Da' Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread!

Okay, thank you both so much. Great things to know! I was also wondering when their laying season is and how long I can expect the hen to lay (to what age?)

I'm not sure in your area since you're so far north and west of us. Laying for ducks that are seasonal layers like Calls depends a great deal on hours of daylight. Ours start laying in February, but yours might be into March.

Speaking of worrying... I know ducks wings twitch and some amount is considered normal. Gidgets wings twitch more than I am used to. It's not constant but it's alot. It seems to happen more when she's nervous. At least that's what it seems like. They fall to her sides and fan a bit and twitch like crazy. I know she's still adjusting so I'm trying not to worry about it but I thought I would mention it just in case.

I think they're okay, sweets. Wobs 'n' Bean's wings twitch all the time, but ESPECIALLY when they're mid-molt! I wonder if it's similar to when you exercise and your legs are kinda twitchy afterward?

Hmmm, that's an interesting thought! That's weird they would twitch more while molting. I have a lot to learn! Thank you for reassuring me! Gadget doesn't seem to do it much at all. Then again he's adjusting really well. I watched him bug hunt yesterday and it was just about one of the cutest things I have ever seen! :love

I think the anology is more like forget to shave your legs and wear tight jeans... how would that feel at the end of the day... lol...

Ok, thank you. Do you let yours hatch their own eggs or do you incubate them? I'm sorry. I have like tons of questions.

You don't need to be sorry at all. We incubate all of ours, partly because we we like to hand raise them so they're used to humans.
I just emailed the breeder and she said they incubate theirs too although if Gidget was given the chance she would probably do fine. I am thinking there is an incubator in my future. Sigh... I am so nervous about incubating, especially calls. I suppose it will be an opportunity to lean but I will probably be on here crying my first couple of attempts. Lol

There's nothing wrong with letting the duck do it. Calls are usually pretty good moms.
