Daily Duck Egg Report for 2015

Can't say I blame them just surviving in the minus and singles is a challenge. We're going to be a bit better for a couple days anyway. Even today with a low of 23 felt good compared to minus 9 yesterday. We're under a winter storm warning for today and tonight though more snow & freezing rain.
I have a Muscovy in one of the chicken nest boxes so now I know who my other layer is. it's Joy. Ruth has not laid another since the one.
The ducks are smarter than my geese apparently - my toulouse pair just started laying. I thought they were just claiming their nest site for when the weather got better, but they have 3 eggs hidden in the run in shed.....

Do you collect their eggs since it's so cold? My geese haven't started yet but I expect it could be any day. I see them going in everyone stalls noddling around in the shaving try things on for size. So cute.

These ones are a lost cause because I discovered them so late. I'm going to mark them and leave them and hopefully grab what gets laid next before they chill. It's hard in this temperature because they get cold so fast. I'll leave her enough to keep her interested in laying, but I doubt I'll be able to throw them in the incubator like I'd like to until the weather improves.

Do you let them raise some on their own?

Yep found some at yard sales they work perfect. She is my only duck that uses them at any given moment the others prefer the shaving on the floor.

Now you just have to tell them that is where they are suppose to lay :lau

We got another egg today as well! Apparently Rocky has decided when she is done laying she needs out of her box. Yesterday and today she managed to knock off the top of her tub in the garage and jumped out. She left Rubble in the tub my himself and they were talking back and forth when I went to put them out. She is so friendly though and let's me pick her right up so it isn't a big deal.
