Daily Duck Egg Report for 2015

I found Rocky's egg today before the dogs did! She hid them by the compost bin behind some boards. I think she may be trying to build a nest. As sweet and cute as that is, it's not happening! I need to hurry up and expand their coop and it looks like the weather should even out this week.

Dogs love eggs. thankfully my dogs don't have access to the flocks property unless I open the gate but I know they sure do love the ducks eggs when I boil them up some.

Okay now we need a pic .

Arrrg, still can't get a single picture that really looks like her... I reviewed 60 pictures we took recently when she was in-house for a hurt ankle (vet visit, anti-biotics
sad.png
). Not one of them was any good. (sticking her tongue out, waggling her wing tips in her ears - that kind of thing). So I went out and took 30 pictures of her this morning (low outdoor sun). I ran up the exposure to get the details, then darkened it back down to her "right" color. I only got 2 to come out close...

Here is the best profile picture I could get. Note when the color is "right", it is over saturated in the low areas and her eye is indistinct.

Here is the same picture as it was taken (over exposed - notice the gray on the Cayuga butt behind her). But her eye is clear.

Here is another picture from the front. Her head is right, but there is no red in her chest like this picture shows. I know browns are the hardest colors for cameras and monitors to display, but this is ridiculous.

Her bill appears to have gone black/gray (it really has) I guess this is the loss of orange/green pigment other ducks get from egg laying (she is laying pretty good which makes the fact that we have to chuck her eggs because of the antibiotics even worse - but Monday, they will be certified clean). We were photographing her ankle while she was laid up (as a reference and a magnifying glass) and this is a pretty good picture of her good foot from one of the pictures. You can see that each scale is orange bordered with green giving her the brown legs and the web is a pretty dark brown itself. But you can also see how far off the colors are vs the ones above.

She is still a cutie but I guess we'd have to vote her least photogenic of your tribe?

That's for sure. But the 3 black ducks (Black Runner, Cayuga, Black Swedish) come in a close second (third and fourth). They are all rainbows in person and black smudges in their photos.

Light ducks are definitely easier to get good pictures of.
