Daily Duck Egg Report for 2016

Woo hoo!!! Two egg day! Maybe your ladies were planning ahead. Nobody wants to sit on their butts for 28 days with nobody to quack with!!

Right? I'm still collecting every day, so no one is sitting on anything, but I might "forget" for a few days and see if any of them get broody if there's a few eggs in a nest...

Ohhhh, I love baby season!! My girls would sit on rocks, year round! What kind of ducks???

I have runners, which are apparently not prone to broodiness :D the oldest were born July 4th of last year, the youngest October 12th, so everything they do involving eggs is new and exciting! But whoever is laying now is definitely taking the time to make a little nest (and sometimes hide the egg under some straw) so I'm wondering if she'll start laying on them if I stop emptying the nest every morning

Possibly. Date the eggs that way if she stockpiles, you can take out the oldest and you'll be able to tell if somebody else lays in the nest too. Will you let her brood?

Well, I've stopped counting eggs every day, but, after today's haul, there's 9 dozen in the fridge!! It's been too cold to let them start their broodiness nonsense and the eggs themselves have been too cold to put in my incubator. Except for the 5 that I put in yesterday. Even had one of my khaki gals lay one on the way out the coop door. We were both rather surprised! Plus my Canadians are laying too.

Another 2 egg day today. I put in golf balls last night and found all 6 golf balls had been kicked out of the nesting box. Hmmm.
I'm going to be re-strawing the duck house and nest boxes tonight. And I'll see how many golf balls. . um, eggs. . get kicked out today.

3 eggs today!!! :weee

They're still all white, though! I have some suspicions that at least some of my older ducks aren't full-time runners... which shouldn't surprise me, since I found them on CL from a lady with a wiiide variety of poultry all mingling in her yard, and we had already suspected for a while that one of the drakes is a Cayuga cross. I still love them, but darn it! I wanted pretty colored eggs!
