Daily Duck Egg Report

My 2 campbell's are still each giving me an egg a day, is this because they are new layers(young)? I'm so grateful they are, cuz all but my RIR quite laying and are starting to molt. First time I have experienced molting, I just hope it don't get to cold for the girls b4 the feathers come back. My 1 duck still lays her egg outside, when it's below 32 will the egg freeze and is that ok, just put it in the fridge like normal?

I never eat frozen eggs- here being frozen caused them all to crack and so I just felt that would be best to not eat those. The dogs do eat them tho.

They lay so early, I'm afraid their frozen before I can even get out there and get them and their almost my only eggs right now.

You must not be to far from me, 1 lays her egg outside next to the dog house and 1 lays her egg in the dog house, what temps around here before you think they truly freeze at? Thanks

Well 32'F is freezing, the problem is tho that air temp does not always = ground temps or temps inside of a pen or coop, and def not inside of an insulated dog house. Best thing to do IMO is get out there early as possible, but if they crack, I'd toss them.

I'm out at first light, they are always pacing the gate already waiting to go out to the pond. They are so cute and excited in the morning, very early risers. If they crack, I scramble and give back to them(I do w/the chicken eggs), I've never had a duck egg crack yet. (knock on wood) So as long as their not cracked, their fine, that's awesome. Kind of hard to tell if something's frozen on the inside. Thanks for the info.

If the egg's not cracked, it hasn't froze...freesing temp of an egg is substantally below 32....and there are reports of ducklings hatching from frozen eggs of wild ducks.
