Daily Duck Egg Report

I got another egg from my baby girl! That's 2 eggs in 2 days! I'm so proud of her but she's not sitting on them. What should I do? Any one with answers please help. Thanks so much

She won't sit until she's built up a clutch of eggs. My girls usually star sitting after they have accumulated at least 16 eggs, but I've seen as many as 26 (!!) If it were my duck, I'd take them and eat them, as many of the very-beginning-first-laid- eggs are double yolkers, and from what I understand, even if fertile, those aren't very likely to hatch anyway. Plus winter is on the way. Let her sit in the Spring. My $0.02.

Here I found just one egg today. And it was a strange one, laid in the evening, and it just fell out next to the feed dish. Of course I didn't notice who laid it, even tho I was standing right there.

My girl laid her first egg today. If she doesn't sit on it what should I do? Should I do anything? How will I know if there is a little baby duck in there or not? This is my first time raising ducks so this is all new to me. I was told that since I didn't get them until Mach 28 at a day old that they wouldn't lay eggs until next year so I'm caught a little off guard. Someone with answers please help me. Thanks so much!!

She might not sit at first. The only way to tell, sadly, if its fertilized is to crack it open, or incubate it for 2 weeks and candle it to see whats going on in there. Sometimes ducks dont sit until they have a full clutch, sometimes they sit right away. Have you considered an incubator? I just bought one because I didnt want to rely on my girls and their moods! It will be lovely if they sit and hatch their own babies, but I need to take action myself!

Today I got 3 duck eggs and one chicken egg. I'll probably get another chicken egg this afternoon. Im storing the duck eggs because I have about 11 in the incubator, and anything that doesnt work out I can replace with a new egg.

Well, the 9 incubated eggs did nothing. It's over 30 days now and no hatching. The 2 eggs in the next hatched over Labor Day weekend. We had 2 babies running around here until this weekend. They have disappeared. Not sure why they left Momma or what happened to them. Sad. But the next nest (new Momma) has 14 eggs in it and 5 scattered throughout the roost. Tonight I found a "soft" egg outside the Roost. Thinking of letting my daughter take it to Science class tomorrow to study.

We got one duck egg today, not sure if the young ducks are starting to lay or if our older gals are getting back into the groove. Keep you updated. Hopefully, everyone will start to lay again.

The story behind the discovery:
Location: My daughter and I were in the pen
My daughter spotted the egg, bent down to get it and she stood back up while raising it in the air, and I could hear the music playing,I could also see the lights gleaming around the egg. Hip hip hooray, we have one egg today! :) Sorry there is not more to it, I just felt the need to explain the joy around this poor lonely egg. Hope everyone starts to get some eggs rolling in.

3 duck eggs and one chicken egg in the shed...And I dropped them all! I did baking and cooking with eggs yesterday so of course Im low now. If Im lucky I'll get another chicken egg this arvo, and try not to drop it!

No duck eggs yesterday, we finally got a killing frost(last night) and the it wasn't out of the 50's for the high, this maybe the earliest my ladies have stopped normally they go till Oct but we've had some crazy feather(hot/cold)

My chickens still are however.
