“Why would you say something like that?" I tangled my finger in my pink tips, staring at his hollow shell of a person. "I really thought we were close." Tears rolled down my cheeks to regain my control over him.Since it’s kind of late, this can be for tomorrow:
“Why would you say something like that? I really thought we were close.”
However, there is a twist! Write this dialogue in one of your character’s (or multiple characters’) voices.
You can incorporate it into a short story, or simply make a list of how different people would say it. Do what you like!
*edited as I forgot to proof-read and the dialogue prompt looked like I had a stroke whilst writing it.
He shook his head and came back to me. His wavering eyes found mine and he gripped my shoulders. "We are," he said; the lier. "That's why I want you to join me."
"Join you," I turned my face away. "Join you in death, because that's what you're asking for!"
"That's not," he held my head in his gentle palms and turned my face back toward his. "Look at me."
"Why should I?" I squeezed my eyes shut and pulled down. He let go and I slid for the door. I covered my mouth and choked on tears. "You would rather leave- leave me behind-" I swung around and stormed toward him. My fake crying could leave now. "And for what? Really, Jintao, for, what? Huh?"
I quivered my head. I could tear him from limb to limb if only it'd bring me the satisfaction I deserved. He stared down at me, almost blankly, like the fool he was. If I couldn't get him to change his mind, he was going to regret even breathing.
"Perhaps," he reached for his coat and laid it across his arm, "it will make more sense when I find out." He stared at the floor, something he did when he knew he was in a losing battle. "I've been asked to captain the Whey. Would you like to come along?"
Oh, mutiny then, eh? Too cowardly to do it while aboard the Destruction, I see. Well, we'll see about that! I stood against his chest, swallowing the darts I wanted to stab him with.
"You rebel," I stared hard into his empty soul, "and I'll make sure that you receive everything you did to our other rebels and then some, understood?"
His chest heaved, but he didn't say a word. A new hardness came over his eyes, one that seemed to claim control over him and wouldn't allow me to dictate his life like I always had. I sneered and went for the door. He could try all he wanted to rebel, but I'll make it so he'll never get away with it. That I'm sure of!
