Awww, thanks for sharing! How adorable! It's funny how our chickens have such "personalities"! Or chickenalities!
I have 3 broodies all in a broody pile, seriously. I have my bearded Turken Mrs. Abe Lincoln, a Cuckoo Silkie, and a handicapped Blue Andalusian - at least I think she's a Blue Andalusian. I never had broody chickens before so I fenced them off from the others and just left them alone. I can't say for sure how many eggs are under them, maybe 20 or 30?
I do worry though. I have seen all 3 come out for food and water, but it just seems like they've been back in that dark corner for awhile. I should've kept better track of when they started their broody pile, but I didn't.
That's great speckledhen (it is, right? lol)! The Silkies are at it again. Today one of the chicks I hatched last July has decided to set for the first time. Jeez she is a real grouch! And then one of my older ones just won't give up. Wish the best of luck with this hatch
Brad, I dont have any pure Delawares at the moment, so nope, just the EEs and Orps. I'm glad to have a broody, just don't want six or seven at once, LOL. Good luck on your Silkie's first hatch!
Well the broodiness is catching around here! Little Momma started it, now Red, Charlie, and Show Off are vying for one nest box when there are three others available but they are sitting on each other in one milk crate! I found a hidden nest with 12 white eggs, and another hidden nest with 7 tiny tiny little eggs in it,,, hmmmm and I found signs of broody poo in several areas...
Oh, dear, that broody poop is toxic! I hope no one else gets the urge right now. Nugget is being a hard case. She's not drinking enough and she isn't getting off the nest at all unless we pull her off. Silly girl, going to make us work right along with her.
