I wouldn't imagine the mess of keeping ducks inside, even for a day. *shudder*

I'm in MI too, and my ducks do fine outside 247, 365. As far as I know, they often sleep outside in weather like that, despite having places to go with straw/pine bedding, etc.

And it's not so bad having them in the basement. Once a day I pull out damp straw and replace it, twice a week sweep it all out onto the garden. Doesn't smell like anything but straw most of the time. Sawdust is in the splash catcher and that gets cleaned out as needed, a few times a week.
