Danged deer...

Exactly--the only way to go unless you've got a really mean dog that is around 24/7. Unfortunately my springer used to just lay on the lawn and watch them.

I see you already have received a lot of great advice. I laugh reading this though because I grew up a city girl and recently moved to the "country." I've been here over a year and I STILL get so excited when I see one of those beautiful creatures. I just adore them...lol. Is there something I could plant to attract them? Like a certain flower or bush?? I know, you all think I'm a nut. Sorry. haha.

I tried salt lick (someone suggested that), they didn't come. I see them once in a while along my driveway in the woods, but I'd love to plant something at the edge of the woods for them.

They sell deer corn at TSC. But you need tothink of your neighbors, are there any close you would be attracting deer to their plants. But then again maybe if they have a good corn meal they won't be as likely to eat others. But........ Yeah get a deer corn and feed them that.

They sell deer feeders at the fed stores and Purina even makes deer food. I'm thinking about getting one to put near the train tracks.

Actually they are very pretty. One year I had 100 bales of hay stacked and covered to about 12" from the ground. They came through and ate the bottom bales around the edges and caused the whole stack to cave in. I called the Dept of wildlife and they came to inspect. When the guy got here there was around 25 deer doing whatever they could to get to the hay. I couldn't put a fence up because there was heavy snow around it. That was one of the reasons the deer were so aggressive about it. The wildlife dept reimbursed me the cost of the hay.

I tried shooting them with my pellet gun. It's a 900 ft per second model. You can see it hit them but they don't even move. Only time they feel it is if you get them in the snout. Then they jump and run.

Thanks for the advice! We are on over 5 acres, so no close neighbors. The deer are in the woods anyway, I just want them to come close enough so we can watch them.

?....mature does should have twins

Have seen several deer trapped in hog traps....even mature bucks

I have family in the Kerrville area and they are over-run with deer. Just waiting for those bucks to get in good rut and kill a couple kids and then they might figure out that a hunt is needed. Set-up some designated areas for bow hunters and that will help. there have been efforts to sterilize them...they found it wasted money and irritated the deer but not enough for them to leave

folks have gotten good at keeping them out of backyards but front yards are the deer's domain. there are a few plant species they won't eat...any good nursery should be able to help you...the pear is toast...it will only attract them...that might be good if they open up a bow season!

We had someone here shoot a deer with a bow. Missed the heart and lungs and the deer ran around in populated areas for around a week before they caught it and it still died. They finally tracked the guy down and sent him to the slammer. Lot of public outrage over it.

Before you start baiting or feeding to attract them, check into your state or local ordinances. It is illegal in many areas to feed deer.
