froom last hatch, i ended up with a stain about 1.5 x 2.5 in. in size.

it is not a really bad, dark stain; but it is certainly visible!

the joys of styrofoam, the stain stuff is now in the 'spaces' of the styro.!!!

concerned about a bacterial bloom once i set it up to lockdown environment--then having chicks killed by the bacteria.

I can only remove stain by cutting it out.

I thought of maybe putting foil over it, or a piece of cloth..................

what do you experienced people think.

i really wanna keep using it as a hatcher............

grateful to you

You ask several different people for opinions and you will get several different opinions. I just clean them out with an antibacterial dish soap and rinse good. I don't think it is especially sanitary under a broody. Good luck...

I have one of those Styrofoam Hovabators from years ago. The first hatch was good, after that a bacterial bloom would occur and kill the newly hatched chicks in spite of cleaning and drying the Styrofoam. Being somewhat of a chemist, I started using Hydrogen Peroxide of the common 3% variety in the water trays. Success, I've been using that for years now in that old duct taped and repaired incubator. The water no longer gets that slime film that inhibits evaporation and humidity. The chicks hatch out fine and even the late hatchers don't succumb to infection.
