I'd keep an eye on this bird. I regularly check my girls' vents by scratching their sides when the squat. They flip up their tails to show their vent to me (yes, they think I'm a rooster) and I'm able to see just how swollen or small their vents are. I would worry that your Ameraucana will develop a prolapse by passing large bloodied eggs.I have a 10mo old Americana who is laying giant eggs twice a week. They are 3 inches in length. The one she laid over the weekend had a little blood on it but the one today had quite a bit of blood. Otherwise, she acts OK, eats like a pig. I am worried about her. Is this just going to have to run its course and she will eventually die? I hate to loose her as she is one of my favorites. I am a newbie to chickens. Just started this past spriing.
