d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

feel free to ask away if you feel the need, either here or in a PM
I dont mind at all.

yes they are very close, all the Belgian breeds are very similar actually, pretty much anything with D' in front
of their name.
d'anver, d'uccles, d'watermaels, d' grubles (or however it's spelled) and a couple others are all pretty much cusins

Hey Aubrey,
How is this guy in means of showing..?
Never shown a D'Anver before.
What's his pro's and con's.?
Thanks,
Cole.

hard to tell too much about his type in the grass and all, he looks pretty good as far as that goes. But unfortunately, he'd get smoked cause his color is way off for a quail.
He's too yellow. Look back a page or two at mine, they should be a nice dark color kinda reddish brown, with black hackles and tails and fight feathers.
If I had to guess, he's off a blue quail. The blue still dilutes the reddish body color even as a black phase one, and gives you these yellow quail (that's what I call them)
I have hatched tons of them just like him off my blue quails.
While there's nothing at all wrong with them, and if bred to a nice hen, the color corrects right up, they just cant compete in the big shows, they may still do well at smaller ones like state fairs and all though.

Type flaws that I can see are minimal, mainly just needs to be a little fuller feather wise. They have very thick "bull neck" so his hackle could do to be a little thicker. in one or two pics, I can see his ear lobes, the beard and muff should be so full that you'd never see those.
posture looks great.
Tail looks a little thin, but also looks to still be growing in, so if he's coming out of a molt, all the feathering issues could change.

Comb looks good as long as that's not a concave area in the front center. Any dips in the rose combs are pretty much a DQ.

Foot looks a little pale, but then I cant see it very well either, they and the shanks should be a very dark slate blue

Seems no one has any pics to share lately except moi. Well, I'll just talk to myself, LOL. Here are some more from today. First ones are Penny, my lap buddy. She's really coloring up more now:

And Aimee, who was first to get her pretty tipped feathers of the girls. Carly was hiding today, I guess, so no pics of that little minx.

Rufus, with the biggest red comb.

And Rusty, who is darker. Aubrey, potentially (and I know it's really early), which mille fleur male do you see as coming out the best colored of these two? Is Rusty too dark? Will he lighten up? Which comb is preferred of these guys?

*Rufus is friendlier so it's easier to get pics of him, hence, only one pic of Rusty today.

Beautiful pictures, all of the birds are lovely even Rex. Thank you for posting. I know that you are happy with them. I have a few mille fluer eggs cooking but most of them did not make the long jouney to my remote desert town. In a bit I should have a picture or two.

In the second set of pictures, Rusty legs in #6 shot show up with tourquios highlights on my monitor...........funny.

Hey Cynthia,
yep they are shaping up a bit now, the pullets are especially looking good. Wish I could see a little more mottling by now on the boys, but with each set of pics they are looking better.

Dark or light is fine in my book on the millies, I have them both, but the darker is usually preferred by most on the cockerels. The best comes will be the spikey ones, not the slick ones.
They can still make very nice chicks, but by the SOP they are supposed to have spikes, little nubs really on the fron of it, like the first one you have pictured is showing. They are are techincally rose combs, but a little spikey one is what you look for in your best ones.
Keep the pics coming. I've been swamped with work, chickes/and eggs, and trying to offshore fish in what I call my "spare time" yea what little there is of it, so I have been falling behind on my end. Hope to have some nice new ones this fall though once everyone grows up a bit.

Flower
hate the PO shook up yours, hopefully the remaining ones will do great for you though

Hello everyone,

I hope you all have been enjoying your summer. I've been busy moving and I have finally gotten settled into the new house. The chickens seem happy. It's a bit hotter here but there's more grass and tons of bugs. Here are a few pictures I took about a month ago before the move. Enjoy!
