d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

sure, do it every week. It's just more risky that picking them up obviously from handeling and all.
getting blue quail, mottled, black, blue splash, cuckoo, blue cuckoo, dun mottled and a few others right now, a lot of them have stopped, but are due to start back any time.
PM me if you wnt more details and we'll see what we can work out.

Going out of town for a few day, so will be Sunday before I can get back to you

I may have to rehome one of the boys. My little banty Cochin is really stressed by being moved into the coop with them. She's never had to deal with roosters (well, the BR rooster never mated her, so she was safe with him when he led the flock). Now, she has four of them, her own size, after her and she spends all day hiding behind the two older standard hens who are living in the bantam coop. She quit laying, won't talk to us (she chatters when we call her name usually) and she bites if we try to pet her on the roost. Poor thing is really PO'd at us, it seems.

I really don't need four D'Anver boys so could be I need to rehome one of the mille ones. Aubrey, would you say Rusty would be the one to let go? Rufus has such a spectacular comb on him, but Rusty is darker, maybe too dark? The porcelains ain't going anywhere! I'm so happy to have those two, especially.

The friends whom we farm-sat for took home 3 of the 5 Quail D'Anver chicks last night (in a paper bag!) We kept Gazpacho (boy) and one other chick (hopefully a girl!) They are just about 5 weeks old now, and not quite fully feathered. They love to fly up on my shoulder!! I figure they will only need the Ecoglow for about another week.

I have day old chicks on order from Meyer Hatchery that are due to arrive sometime between Aug 2-4. At what point should I try to integrate the 2 older chicks with the newbies? My brooder is divided in half and my coop hasn't even been started yet. How worried should I be about quarantine? I may decide to separate the Silkies from the rest of the flock at some point down the road.

The other thing is that I am supposed to have major surgery sometime in August and I'd like to see the chicks settled in before I schedule my surgery, as the brooder is in the basement and I probably won't be able to go up and down the stairs for a while.

Will try to post pictures if they hold still long enough!

I just saw Angus swallow a tiny frog whole.

Was waiting to see if he'd choke on it so then I'd have to for sure keep both Milles, LOL. Crazy things, I was turning over the rocks that surround their pen because crickets sometimes will jump into the pen from underneath or I"ll find a scorpion for them to eat, but this time, a teensy frog made the mistake of jumping in. Penny got it first and played keep-away. Eventually, Angus ended up with it and swallowed it head first. Guess he got his protein punch for the day.

Dobieslady they are so cute! I am glad they let you keep two of them. I have a trio of Dun Quail and they are my absolute favorite. Their names are Carmine, Emily, and Charlotte. I had d'Anvers many years ago and I don't think I will ever be without again

Thank you! We knew we were going to get to keep Gazpacho, as our friends really weren't looking for another rooster. Amelia Egghart loves to fly onto my shoulder, the dryer, or anything else around once the brooder lid is up. I'm hoping she's a girl. Our friends were having trouble telling who was what. Of the other three, one has been given to a young man who recently lost one of his chickens to the heat. The other two are in the bottom of the cage, below their parents, in the goat barn at our friend's house. I hope they remain happy and healthy and are well loved!!!
