d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Hello all...I'm new to the thread....Not to chickens but I got my first D'Anver's 3 lovely little females...would have brought a boy home for them...EXCEPT...I live in the city and I'm pushing it with my two HUGE boy roosters....1 brahma one AmeruXMaran....but I was so tempted when I heard the dog squeeky toy crow coming from them....the neighbors would have no idea!

haha

glad to have you
and yep, with the sqeek a lot of the d'anvers have, doubt they'd notice that, especially if you get by with two big boys. There's no comparison in the loudnest (if that's a word)

Thanks, I think so, too. I adore these little girls. They are just too precious! Rufus, the alpha male in there, is usually a really good boy, too. He sometimes has his work cut out for him when Rusty starts a rumble with one of the other three (why is Rusty always in the middle of every fight??). When Rufus jumps in the middle, the fighting quits in seconds.

How old would that make him JJ? You two didn't know it, but I've been lerking in the background reading all the goodies.

My little quail is just starting to get feathers, like on the shoulder of it's wings, got some red in them, so I'm just waiting, reading, and comparing!
Will probably have to get Aubrey to sex the little one though, it is a solid medium grey.

Testing out the new incubator tonight, if I don't see any hi or lo alarms by morning, I'll know I have it in a good place. Then just have to decide what colors I want....AUBREY, WHY'D YOU HAVE TO MAKE SO MANYYYY?? I just keep going back and forth.

Talk to you soon!!

That one hatched on 9/19 so he's 3+ weeks.I have a couple blue quail that are starting to show some lacing, but a few of them are just an even blue color.

Laura Lee I saw your post in the introduction forum and I figured after a few days of reading you would show up here.

Thanks and, I did for a long time.

The demand was huge for them, would take orders for colse to 500 chicks a year on them.
And really loved them a lot. But honestly with the d'anver and the bantam phoenix (I have as many going on them as I do d'anvers)
The call ducks, peafowl, wild turkeys, bantam sumatras, crevies and houdans. Now have a large collection of imported large fowl phoenix and long crowers. Lord something had to go.
So all the seramas, polish, and silkies went.
Got 500 breeder birds now takes all I can do with that and work too.

Laura Lee,

Glad to came over here and found the thread, good to have you.
You or JJ feel free to post Blue quail pics if you need help with them. 3-4 weeks is usually old enough to tell on them.
But yep, pretty much good pattern laced backs in any quail color is female
