d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Aubrey! Yesterday I got 4 eggs and today nothing. I do not seperate them by color so I really do not know what I'll get. The picture below are some of the chicks I hatched 2,3 weeks ago. There are some pure silver, silver with brown on the head, black with white. Before Christmas, I hatched around 15 chicks, most were cuckoo and black. I have another 15 due to hatch this weekend and 12 (including the whites) will hatch 2/9. Could you tell me what these chicks will grow up to be, the picture is not that good.

got a good mix there.
Looks like 3 lavender in the middle
all the white head dots are cuckoo, should be split for lavender if that lav cuckoo male is the only cuckoo you have
looks like some quail for sure
a few LOOK blue quail
one looks just blue ( far left)
one cuckoo ( far right) with the white throat may be a barred silver quail, shouldnt be possible on a first cross but that's what the pattern looks like

looks like 1 black

hard to tell on the browner ones.
But anything with a dark body and pale face should be a quail pattern of some sort
will be interesting to see what growns out of them for sure

That's great to hear Do, wish you the best with them... they should make you some real nice birds too.

Cynthia,
No problem either way. You have the tools to make more for sure, but yep would be another year on them.
Mine stopped about two weeks ago on the porcelain, but they should get going again soon, just say the word.

As we get closer to the that date, Aubrey, let me know if the porcelains start back laying again. I'm still going back and forth on it still, but want to have time to get some money to you before you send them. Wouldn't even need a dozen, even six would be plenty, if you thought you could even get that many from them. I think sending less than six, with the P.O.'s "magic" involved, might be an exercise in futility.

dtran, nice bunch! Will be cool to see them grow out.

Those chicks are looking good Do!

Some of my hens are also laying - not many, but I'm getting about 8-12 eggs a day. Just enough to send me in to bit of a panic because I'm not ready to set anything yet this year! It's amazing how fast the eggs have been piling up on me - pretty much all are out of my Quail and Blue Quails. I just want to tell them to hold on for a few more weeks....

Tried to get some newer pictures this weekend. Took a bunch, but only a couple turned out half way decent.

Here is the rooster:

And the hens:

The hen in the back right is a SDW OEGB

The two d'Anver hens had a major molt in early December. You could see skin over almost the whole bird. The new feathers started in quickly with no sign of illness, which I was concerned about due to the way they lost almost all feather in just a couple days. It was strange.

Thanks Aubrey & Kristen! This black one have feathers on his legs, I'm going to give him away this weekend. Hope there will more lavender cuckoo & silver this weekend hatch. I have not have any silver chicks yet, that silver roo not doing his job. What do silver chicks look like? I totally forgot what the silver chicks look like.

just like the one on the far right in your chick pics.
But that one is cuckoo for sure. Silvers are all black with a white throat and face. If you just have the 1 male silver you're not going to get silver right off the bat, you'll have to breed them to quail then back cross. A few of the pullets may be silver, but that would be it. So it's gonna be hard to know if he did the work or not if they are all together.
Couldnt remember if you ended up with a pair or just the rooster.
