Sam, Rufus does have a near perfect rose comb, doesn't he? He is such a little goofball sometimes. Today, he decided he'd flog my shoe because Rusty did, but later on, he danced for DH to pick him up when the Buff Orp hen was getting some petting and he wanted his share. He can't decide if he's a lover or a fighter, LOL. He sure rules that coop with an iron beak, though! Nobody gets the best of Rufus! He breaks up all fights and if challenged, he always wins. He's quite the leader.

Well today is the day. Clean out the breeder pens and brooders. I have 3 porcelain hens, 1 millie hen and 1 porcelain roo (also a project ameraucana hen is also going in sshhhhh!!!

). I lost my millie roo to a hawk last week

Why do they always pick off the best birds. The porcelain roo is ok but is not my first pick. Anyway I am SOOOOOOOO excited to start hatching. It's way over due. Last year I was already on my 3rd hatch by this time.

JJ, is that one of those surprise porcelains because you didn't think it was a split mille? They are super cute.

Aubrey, is there any chance whatsoever that one of my mille girls is split? Any chance at all? It would be so cool to get an unexpected porcelain out of the first hatch. Probably won't but it would be awesome.

That is the suprise, but I had a millie pullet start laying and she is with a millie roo so worse case if they're both splits I will get 50% millies.

those look all like they should, that recessive white will turn about anything just black the first time...

I'd say if there's no doubt the surprise chicks is mille to porcelain, then they have some hidden genetics in there somewhere, because that's a white chick. Will be interesting to see what it ends up being.

I have only 1 mille hen that came from a porcelain line. It is one I got from Tom, so there's a far outside chance that some of the milles you have may have lavender in them, but it'd be a stretch.... though there's always a possibility....
