d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

But yep with him in there, over the next couple years it definitely will make a mix of colors

That's a "her".

Shadow was my only bantam hen until I got the D'Anvers. She never knew a male of her own size, then suddenly, she was hit with four of them. She was not pleased. Thought I'd never have any babies out of her (she's almost 4 now), but now that I have little Aubrey, Angus and Rufus (and till yesterday, Rusty, so he could be the sire of either of the chicks in the bator now), I can hatch her eggs. She was raised in my standard flock with a LF BR rooster who never mated her, never even tried (thank goodness).
Here is the little diva chicken. Don't recall why she was in the house; I think Tom thought something was wrong with her or she was cold or who knows? She got some spoiling anyway.

I've just hatched out 5 D'anver chicks, but as they came from a mixed batch of colours and unmarked eggs, I don't know whats what! There is one which is definately silver quail, but three others that I reckon must be black. Do black chicks normally have cream butts and cream chins? As the silver quail has a full face of cream but 2 others have a cream patch under the beaks and cream butts and one of those has cream tipped wings too. The other one that I think is black, just has a cream butt. I'll put pics up later if it helps, but just thought I'd ask first. :)

haha spoiled rotten Cynthia!!

Bantam username

yes post some pics, that will help me a ton. Most blacks are just black with a lighter belly, sometimes you get one with a little white tipping on the wings, but not much, should be none on the face

pics will help

and yes the silver quail are black with white butts and the white quail face

will be looking for the pics and will try to see if they are a known color or just some mixes

Oh, honey, they all are!

My sweet 4 yr old handicapped BR rooster, Zane, died today of a sudden heart attack. Was checking on an older hen who we know is dying, her systems are all shutting down, acting spacey, so she was in the hospital cage above Zane's permanent cage, when I noticed he was gone and he'd been crowing his heart out earlier. We're in shock over it, didn't expect it today, of all days, so to get my mind off it, I let the bantam flock out to free range today, every last one of them. The only one of this D'Anver group who has ever been out of the pen is Rufus, though the Buff Orp and the banty Cochin were raised free ranging. They were excited, but of course, Pocket Penny still wanted me to pick her up. They did really well.

Get ready for some pics! First, Angus. Ain't he a looker?

The next pic shows Aubrey in front next to tiny Carly, then a close up of Aubrey. He's so

wonderful pics cynthia
cant wait to get my eggs from aubrey!

I loved that rooster so much, you'd think I was insane. He was really, really special. He had a depth to him that you just couldn't imagine unless you'd met him. Just was a cheerful fellow in spite of being crippled. Watched over all the broodies with chicks and they all trusted him, too. I was going to get him out in the sun after the main flock was put away, but I didn't do it soon enough. I keep wishing he'd died in the sunshine, but at least he was warm and watching everyone outside roaming around, not shivering in the cold. I still can't believe he's gone. I get attached to some more than others, but he was really the love of my life, which sounds weird to some, but you just had to know Zane and look into those soulful eyes. Darn, this is a bad day.

Sorry, this is the D'Anver thread. I'll probably blubber over some of my pocket pets, too. I'm pretty attached to Miss Penny, I can tell you that!

Well I've been reading this thread for a while but thought I'd finally chime in. I got my first d'anvers this month and am in LOVE with them. Here's a few pics of my little trio.
