d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

not bad so far, they always seem to change a lot in a good way as they age for me. Mine on the first go, were just cuckoo looking, as they got to be 1 year they looked like the current pics I have up. so your guys at this age already is showing a lot of red and gold which is great. Even looks like he may be getting a little wing bar to him which mine havent shown yet. They need that good ol duckwing triangle in it to be considered a true crele. So if he doesnt end up with that, I'd breed him back to bb's. Honestly if I were you, I d do both routes if for no other reason than to add more blood into them. They already have all the genes in them to make a crele as is, but going back to bb will just help strenghten the over all color pattern too.
It's what I have been doing.

Hi Aubrey, Below are pictures of the recent chicks. There are 1 group picture and 3 different single chick pictures, are all of the single picture will be silver quail? The rest I know will be porcelain cause I had them before. Thanks, Do

Will do, just noticed yesterday I have a bb red pullet that came out of one of the assortments.

yep Do, all silver quail

the dot headed ones are showing more columbian I think is all that's going on there. They come from my lavender silver quail breedings, so they should carry lavender for you too. The black one is a chick from them too. It will carry both lavender and silver quail. It's just one that hatched in that group and my wife sent it anyway, she doesnt know one from the other, just sends what hatches haha

Aubrey, speaking of silver quails showing a lot of columbian. One of my roosters, I hatched from your eggs has white saddle hackle. Is that apt to change when he gets older?

jj

nope,
I have a columbian hen in there too so that's most likely one of her chicks. Usually on silver quail, they start out blacker and get whiter as they age, so if they are white now, they should stay that way, most likely will be columbian... I hope it is. as far as I know my couple hens are it in columbian.... funny how it's a standard color though???

Aimee and Aubrey have a new baby! I mean, the D'Anvers, not the Webbs, LOL. Aimee's chicks are hatching on Day 19. One is already fluffy, the other egg is pipped. Carly and my Orp have three more of Aimee's eggs between them and DH has one of Penny's on a heating pad on Day 18 (has since Day 13 and it's still alive and kicking! He dropped and cracked it so I let him experiment with the heating pad incubation).

Could the blue chick be lavender silver quail or columbian?

Here is a pic of the cockerel I was asking about. He has a few black spots on him but he gets whiter every week.

Here is a pullet from a silver quail egg. If I cross these two would I have a good chance of getting some columbians or should I cross them with silver quail?

Aubrey....I have a color genetics question...Cynthia and I have created an oddity (imagine that huh?). Well she bred it and I incubated it. From what she and I know in our limited genetics areas the chick should not look like the chick looks. hahahahaha

The players in this game are:

Rooster...Isaac Delaware Studmuffin Extraordinnaire and the Hen...Snow, fluffy beautiful blue splash ameracuana and the offspring

Storm, Black chick, heavy white on chest and throat remainder of body is black with a white barring of sorts...

So...how does this happen? Both the Roo and the hen come from strong breeder lines so they are what they are. Help...explain this little sweet oddity to us please.
