d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Yeah, every Delaware over anything we've done so far turns out mostly white with black in hackles and tail, with the males getting some red streaks or patches in the wings and/or saddle and hackle areas.

How did a Delaware over a Splash get a mostly black chicken?

Aimee has two gorgeous babies this morning on Day 20. Carly and Dusty (the Orp) have theirs on Day 19, all three of those also belong to Aimee.

One has eyeliner and a head triangle, but not as distinct as Mina did.

Here is a video clip of them: http://s673.photobucket.com/albums/vv95/Mtnviewpoultry/Video Clips/?action=view&current=DSCN5820.mp4

Well after 4 years of chickens had our first loss to a raccoon. That sucker pulled an 8 week old chick through a 3/4" gap between boards. Thanks to a neighbor loaning me a trap, I can guarantee that one won't be eating any more chicken though. I gave it a good dose of medicine to prevent that. :)

To make things worse, it got a quail pullet that my son needed to have for his 4-H project. Not sure what he is going to do for a young trio now, but he will still have his older trio to take.

We did get some salve for the upset though. We went to check on his broody hens and found a freshly hatched chick. There are still two more eggs we are expecting to hatch. So keep your fingers crossed for them.

Hey all :)

Just wondering about colors, as usual. Hope everyone is doing well. I've had my internet out for awhile but just getting back into catching up on all my online stuff.

What color would I get from pairing a Silver Blue Quail and a Silver Quail? Just some of both colors? Thank you :)

Unless you get a male bird from somewhere else yours will only have one silver gene. So it works out like this

Pullets
25% silver quail
25% blue silver quail
25% blue quail
25% quail

Males
25% silver quail
25% blue silver quail
25% blue golden quail (one silver + one glod gene)
25% golden quail ( one silver + one gold gene)

Well, between Aimee, Carly and the heating pad, there are 5 new D'Anvers in the world. Aimee has her two, Carly has one, plus the one we had to incubate the rest of the way in the house on the heating pad hatched and it belongs to Penny. DH is taking it out to Carly now. At first, didn't think it would make it, but it finally righted itself and was chirping its head off.

Here is Penny's kid--looks like another eyeliner kid to me, JJ.

Second set of co-broody D'Anvers this year, Aimee and Carly (instead of Aimee and Penny just over three months ago). I moved them from the broody cage in the bantam coop to a cooler area, in my late rooster, Zane's cage in the Orp coop-better air flow. Five babies between them, four are Aimee's and one of Penny's (hatched on the heating pad).

Cyn those girls are so precious. Love that Aimee.

Here in Kentucky we heard a nasty rumor that JJ was still trying to infiltrate our training facility and get aerial photos. So to combat that the commanders of the Hairy Legged Horde decided extreme measures were necessary so they have constructed a military camouflaged training facility. muahahahahaha

Word also has it that the Kentucky Leg Fungus has infiltrated Mountain View Poultry. Muahahahahaha No place is safe from the Hairy Legged Horde.
