d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

I lost a cochin baby early in the week and found a CW hen down in the coop this evening. She was alert but dehydrated. Her crop was full, but you could tell it was dry. After hand feeding her water, she was able to start drinking on her own. Was able to gently massage her crop. Put her in the hen house where the swamp cooler is running and will check on her again.
The heat wave is horrendous.
I've been wetting down the shade cloths and around the coops and have hung burlap sacks that I can wet down too. Changing water out for cool water and feeding frozen treats.
Hope it doesn't get as hot as last year's drought.

I have fans on my brooders, frozen bottles in the waterers and AC in the breeder house.

But at least my power is still on. I alot of people around here don't have any and they are not expecting to get service back for 3 or 4 days.

Thank goodness indeed. We got the edge of that danged storm. Came out of no where with steady 45 mph winds and gusting around 60 mph...blew my chicken compound down the road. I was rushing to get 50 birds inside in that crap. ack! I tell you one thing...before my husband has a happy wife it will cost him solar powering my coops with AC and helping me install my ventilation fan and auto water system. I am getting cranky in this heat. And when I worry about my birds well everyone around me is unhappy. My daughter told me today she wanted to go to Cyn's and help her take care of her birds because I was a task master. LOL

Quote: You know what that means-she wants to come down here and kiss and hug on my Delaware rooster and carry him around like a doll so he can't do his job. I wouldn't get any work out of either one of 'em!

Of course...I know how that child's mind works....Ike has a backup now and she knows it and thinks Ike can spend his time in the hammock swinging and Gideon can watch the girls. Ike will only be othered when Gideon cannot handle them. hahahahahaha

Gideon may not stay if he doesn't settle down and quit making me nuts. He's only 14 weeks and acts like he's 18, with all the hormonal teen antics.

It's 98* here right now with high humidity. I'm queasy from the heat myself. Had to bring two older Ameraucana hens inside, plus Gideon.

D'Anver babies, all kids of Aubrey and Aimee, except the one with the eyeliner and very dark back in the center, which is the heating pad chick, belonging to Penny. One of these has a case of Kentucky Leg Fungus. Not sure how, since Aimee has only a few teensy-weensy stubs and Aubrey has none.

Hi d'anver lovers. I was hoping you pick your brains for some advice. My daughters just had their first 4H show in June and while we were there, they fell in love with d'anvers. We were thinking of doing a project with hatching eggs in the fall so they could raise them up literally from the egg. Do you guys have any tips? Advice? Are there colors that do better than others in show? If anyone has done it before, how do d'anvers do as showmanship birds?

Total newbie to the breed, so any information you guys could share would be appreciated. I'm slowly reading through the thread here, all 387 pages, to see what info is in here. If there are any links or pages I should visit, please direct me.

Thanks in advance!
