d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Trying for the 4th time to upload pics today. Someone is coming Friday to take the 2 pairs of D'Anvers plus several of these chicks.

And Mina, who will be going with Aubrey on Friday. I may keep the known cockerel and Heather, if the new owner doesn't want him. He's pretty obvious now with his very pink comb.

Thanks Aubrey! I'll breed them to the white hen and the brown hen picture below to see what will come out.
Do, that's a buff columbian there. Everyone can see now what I ment by the backs cleaning up better each year, she's almost there.
She would be a good choice for columbian, of course you'll have the red bred to silver thing, and be making some golds too, but that's fine

EDIT TO ADD.

Went on and saw the follow up pics too of the columbians. They do look good for being off and F1 hen to silver quail. Glad you got a few of them, need a lot more people working with this " recognized " color that is virtually non exisitant. Makes you wonder where they all went from back in the day when they got recognized dont it. The bb red, buff, and both the columbian just arent found anywhere anymore.... kEEP A GOOD EYE ON THEM... They'll be some important birds in helping bring the color back

KristenR...the daddy is a Mille d'Anver roo straight from Aubrey's eggs (he formerly lived with Speckledhen but I stole his affection on a visit and had to go back and get him...she was mean to him you see and he was forced to flog her in defense *snicker*)...the girls in his pen are all d"uccles which is where the skin and leg feathers come from (recall I am creating the hairy legged horde to infilitrate JJ's flock). There are 2 porcelain d'Uccle girls in the pen and they are naturally eliminated because they are my two and half year old hens which have two seasons of breeding behind them..proven porcelain. The other two girls are a Lavender d'Uccle and a Black split to Lavender d'Uccle. It is possible that there is a silver gene in one of those girls because they were sired by a Mille d'Uccle that I did not breed here as he was a purchased replacement roo after the death of my porcelain roo. I did have one Columbian d'Uccle thrown last year by the Mille d'Uccle roo so it could simply be a throw back from the chick's grandfather if he was the silver carrier.

This is the columbian chick thrown last year:

Here he is behind the black pullet...

So at this point I am pointing the finger at the grandfather, the Mille d'Uccle replacement roo. As the chick pictured above hatched directly from his eggs and this current chick from one of his daughters most likely.
Not sure if it's from the same mix or not, but that "black" chicks is a silver birchen too, so you definately have silver running around there some where. If you had columbian pop up out of the d'uccles last year, then it is got to be coming from his line for sure

I think I am going to try breeding my two hens and brown red hen with one of my columbian males. And the other one I will put with silver quail, Blue silver quail and bb red. I like the Idea of silver birchen and will work towards silver duckwing. Man it just snow balls don't it.

haha,

you starting to sound like me now JJ.
Yep I have the silver birchen on the to do list here too. I did get several of the silver duckwing off the lavender silver quail project birds this year, not sure how, never added duckwing to them?? But they were all super tiny and none made it. Will try again for some next year. I'll eventually just put my bb and silver quail together and be done with it in a couple years....

So. Cute!!!!!!

Cetawin - Also noticed the silver on the Black pullet in your picture, as Aubrey pointed out. Silver is usually dominant and sexlinked, and when you said Lavender, that set a bell off. Some Lavender strains carry silver instead of gold. Maybe that is where your silver originated? It is possible it came from the Mille Fleur rooster too....most Mille Fleurs carrying a silver gene look like the photo below, photo courtesy of feathersite. The Silver Mille Fleurs are pretty! Regardless, looks like it is working out well for you with such handsome chicks. You will indeed have some fine hairy legged hoard infiltration specimens!

Speckledhen - Mina is adorable! Look at that cute little face!
I recently acquired a couple of Mille Fleur d'Anver cross hens from a local lady who was trying to breed the color from scratch (i.e. taking the color from OEG). She was getting rid of them due to her own health reasons. She called them "project birds". These were the best two in her flock, I'd say she did a pretty good job. I can't let all of her work go to waste, so I took them and I will see about setting up a breeding pen for them. She's so close, all that's really left to do is put the slate back in the legs and refine type a bit. Here they are:

And just for fun here is my boy named "Grace", he's a Splash Quail d'Anver:

Here are a few more pictures:
These are two of my Buff Columbian patterned chicks....the pullet is a Blue Buff Columbian and the male is a Lavender Buff Columbian:

And one of my Blue Silver Quail pullets fast asleep...

And here is a Barred Blue Quail from my Crele project long ago...thought the boys of this color were pretty:

EDITED to add this photo of my recent BBR-like throwback...what makes her neat (to me) is that she just appeared out of nowhere after 6 years of not having any BBRs and she is better marked than most of the birds I had back at the time. Granted, she would still need work to be called BBR, but I am having pretty mixed emotions about just throwing her out. Behind her is a Cuckoo cockerel.:

Yep, I think I am getting there. What in two years I have a bunch of colors, alot of them thanks to your work. But I got a few of my own ideas. I really like silver and lavendar so will probably put most of my efforts in that direction. I have some eggs in the hatcher now out of my lavendar quail x silver quail along with some lottery eggs( silver duckwing, columbian) long shot I know but that 1024th one could hatch third(ha ha). Also I have some pyncheons, not sure I can get them where the need to be. But I am think making some Watermaals should be possible. It just keeps on going.

JJ- Watermaals are a fun project! Here are some of mine:
A broody Quail Watermaal hen

A Blue Quail Watermaal hen and Quail rooster (crest was clipped on hen because it was too big for her to see - a bit large for the breed, but I'm not too concerned about it, usually they're too small):

And here is the same pair again, better view of the hens body:

Here is a Splash Watermaal cockerel:

And yes, all of them have triple spiked rose combs. This was one of my special projects. The hens come from my own line of birds, the Quail rooster is a new addition from a lady in Ohio that shipped him to me to add to my flock as new blood. I've even taken a few of them to shows now...although the judges aren't quite sure what to make of them, lol.

Kristen- nice birds. I bought these to quail pullets that had real good type but their breast was rose colored like a bb red. I had a bb red rooster that I hatched from Aubrey's eggs and no hens. so I put the two quails with him. the pullets out of them are pretty good bb reds and the males look like ginger reds (but with a red breast).
