d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Cynthia, they look great, those last couple pics of the mille roo are really nice!

K Epp,

candle them if you can. you will be able to tell if they are still kicking or not. I never toss one without checking first.

they generally hatch at day 19-20 though. They run a little quicker than normal, most likely why the others hatched on Tuesday for you.

The one with the yolk hanging out, eh, they usually don't make it past a day old. Sounds like you are doing all you can for it though

I'd give them one more day, then start candling and maybe opening them at the air cell to see what happened. Could be the dry incubation was too much for the small eggs in winter, not sure. I've never done it, personally, so no experience with it. If the worst happens, I have plenty of eggs for you to try again.

Aubrey that little guy mugging for the camera is my Spike. Rusty2 would never get that close to me without attacking unless he's eating from my hand through the fence. Spike seems to be smarter than the average D'Anver rooster.

The yokester is running around doing good. It's the other with leg problems. I just got to figure it out. I have three days off the tend to him though.

Cynthia save me some more eggs.

I added water. To help with the humidity. I tjink i justvfo better if I put them in the garage and leave the alone for three weeks. What ever happened was in the last week because I saw all kinds of movenent in day 10 or 12 can't remember when I candled.

Poor Ol'Rusty... Y'all have a love hate relationship.

Did you see my post about my D'anver and the turkey. Funniest thing ever Big Tom running from such a little guy.

I did see that, too funny!

Sometimes, you just don't know why a hatch doesn't work. I've had them when everything seemed perfect and they just fizzled, but the D'Anvers usually do very well. Do you have a hygrometer to measure humidity? I don't recall you saying which incubator you're using. I do 35-45% humidity until Day 18 then up it to 65-70%. Seems to work fairly well for the most part, that and putting the bator where there is no draft.

My D'Anver hens are super cuddly and sweet, though you'd think they were little pitbulls, pulling on my pants legs and shaking their heads, asking to be picked up, all at the same time, lol. A couple are very skittish because they were not handled as chicks, being raised by broodies in a large group (I usually have multiple broodies in there and they stay in the flock to raise the chicks most of the time). ''
The males are mostly either aggressive or just plain standoffish. The late Angus was not either one, but not exactly wanting me to touch him all the time. Spike is amazingly friendly, the only one I've ever had like that.
