d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

This is one of my first breeds and I'm smitten. I'm jumping into chickens from Schipperkes, so I admit to having a bit of bias toward Belgian breeds, but I really can't get over how much attitude these little guys have. I bought three, and ended up being lucky enough to get two pullets and a cockerel. They'll be 9 weeks old on Monday. At what age can I start evaluating type? At this point I don't have any intentions of showing or breeding, but I'm still curious how well (or poorly) they stack up to the standard.

A smattering of the many photos I've taken:

This is one of my favourite photos. She was extremely offended that I wouldn't let her fly off the grooming table.

Same pullet as the photo above.

The littlest pullet especially loves to clean the cockerel's face. He always looks really bewildered when she does it lol.

I've heard d'Anvers roosters can be mean. What are the odds of mine keeping his sweet temperament as he ages?

The next three are of the same pullet at one, three, and eight weeks old.

Updated pic of my porcelain pair. What a pair those two are. They are full of it.

She is a real attention hog and will come up and expect to be hand fed.

They're getting so big, Karen! How pretty! I'm about to build a 4x8 coop and move my remaining 9 D'anvers into that and move my elderly hens into their coop since it's lower to the ground and just all-round better for the old gals.

Sweet! I love the porcelains! I hatched out a porcelain rooster for my porcelain girl and can't wait to make more!

I am building a new coup too.

10'x20' with 4 rooms. Almost got one of the 20 ft. walls done today. It is going so much slower than I would like!

Whaaaat am I doing on this thread??? Oh yea, I got wind of Speckledhen talking about a 12 x 20 coop, LOL. You know, once it's done, you will have to fill every nook and cranny up!

Hope you find the money to do it.

I am lucky my husband does carpentry, otherwise we wouldn't be able to afford it.
We build our own buildings, but you still have to get the money to buy the materials. I wish just once we could afford to pay someone else to do something for us. Sigh. I do enjoy building things, though, so the little 8x4 will be fun.

I hear you. I have waited a long time for a new chicken house. An inheritance is making it possible. I know my mom would be happy to see me finally get my chicken house. I enjoy helping my husband build things too.

You will have to post pictures of your 8x4 chicken house as you build it.

I like seeing other people's ideas.
