d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Will do! And I can do it on here, too, since my D'Anvers will be moving into it.
Good!

Looking forward to it. I will try to get pictures of mine as it is built as well. Trying to make it easy for feeding/watering and closing up for friends to take care of my chickens when we want to be gone.

I'm not sure what that color is other than pretty.

Wow, it's astounding how much the price of lumber has skyrocketed! I'm having to sheath the coop with 3/8" plywood rather than 1/2". I could not believe the increase. 3/8" was $15/sheet. 1/2" started at $25/sheet! No way I was going to bump up $10 per sheet (needing 10 or more sheets) so I settled for the 3/8", except for the flooring and the two sheets needed for roof decking-those are subfloor grade OSB.

Thank God for Lowe's and their respect for the military (

to Home Depot who refuses to give the Military Discount on lumber) which saved us 10% today on a $307 bill.

We already have roof felt paper and shingles left from our house renovation. And we'll haunt the Oops! shelf for paint. Will paint the floor and interior with gloss paint like we did the other bantam coop.

It's going here. Will cut out the fence on the end and attach to the coop at each side. That wood was just to gauge the slope.

The supplies we bought today. We already had the end 4x4's needed, just had to buy the 8 footers.

The cost of materials is awful! Lucky you got the military discount. Our closest store that has the lowest prices is Home Depot. Looks like you got a great start! We have a RE (re-cycle) store here in town that has used everything for sale at rock bottom prices and the proceeds go to the Habitat for Humanity. I found two windows there for $22 and $24 for a 2x3 (slider) and 3x4 (single hung) window. I need one more 3x3 window for the food storage/chick room. We got lucky and my BIL has a bunch of metal roofing left over from when he did his house and wants to just give it to us. He also has a bunch of expanded metal that we will use on the 2x3 openings in each room for ventilation. I am also building my coup along an existing fence/pen and will cut out the wire when it is done. I have to take out the old chicken house and move and put back a 10x10 kennel with its 10x10 house so we can cut down some severely leaning trees that have the potential to fall on the pens and existing houses this winter. One tree has cracks in it!

How does painting the floor hold up to shoveling when cleaning the house? I have used linoleum in my other houses and it is not holding up well at all! I will use it in my storage room, but the other 3 rooms are going to need something else. I haven't decided on what to use for siding. Something cheap!

I painted the bantam floor with oil based exterior high gloss Oops! paint and it works great. I'll never do vinyl tiles or sheet vinyl again. They do not hold up to anything sharp at all.

Our Habitat ReStore thinks their stuff is worth gold apparently. They overcharge for everything. I have better luck at flea markets for windows.

Thanks! That is good to know about painting the floor. My husband thinks the vinyl, fake wood flooring might work. Home Depot has it for .60 cents a foot. Our RE store puts some pretty high prices on some of their stuff too. The windows just happened to be a good deal.

We got a 3rd wall up today.

Tomorrow we will get the last 10 foot end wall up. Then I really have to make up my mind about what kind of siding I am going to use! SO darn expensive!!

I do love building things, but this rain is killing me. I think I see some cooler, drier weather coming as of Saturday. We did get the foundation and floor put down today and it's ready to raise the walls, hopefully starting tomorrow if the rain will hold off until late in the day. Had a devil of a time getting it level since the ground slopes front to back and side to side, but we managed to do it. This ground here is level for our property-living on a mountain has its issues, certainly. Would have had a worse slope if we'd done it on the back side of the pen where you see the wheelbarrow.

Your making good progress! Hope you get some better weather. Big slope where we are building so we had to use concrete piers with legs. I have done a lot of construction with my husband, but I'm getting old and lifting that 20x7 foot wall with all those window headers in it was a stretch today! We had a chance of thunder storms this morning but got no rain. California is dry as a bone! We need rain bad, but sure hope we get this house done and the others moved before the rains start!
