I have to share this here...

My husband who isn't involved in the chickens much... Sends me a text after I've been really thinking my numbers trying to get down to a personal reasnoble #. I've went from 80 to when the last are picked up 50. Quiet a accomplishment for me.

Okay back to the story...

He sends me a text that says "I've had chickens donated to me.". I think oh no not again... Last time he brought in a pair of chickens it was a pair of roosters... Granted they were the start if my love for D'anver. I still have one of the quail colored guys in the flock in my barn. This time I ask gender ratio, breed, age. The answer was 2 roos/5 hens, white and black bantam with feather legs, 2 ys old. I'm thinking Silkie, d'Uccle, Cochin or Brahma. I ho with him at dark together them because I'm not bringing in a bunch of roos... Still worried about that. We get there and they are white and black, have feather legs, 2 /5 ratio, looks young. That's where it stops...

They are huge mammoth giant LARGE FOWL LIGHT BRAHMA...

Here's part of them crammed in the large Rubbermaid title brooder box I brought to take them in.

400

Now I get a new coop because these guys are to big and fill up the Silkie house I cleared out for them.

Gawd, Karen, there are at least two roosters in there. And you have to thunk him on the head for bringing home birds who are "donated" because of the disease risk. Bad hubby!

ETA: On the other hand, if they are disease-free, I love Brahmas. My last remaining hatchery bird is a Buff Brahma hen who is now 8 years old. Great gals.

I think they are disease free or look to be. Got them quarantined. 2 roos. It was more of a rescue. The bird owner a son who lived with elderly parents who were unable to take care of them with out risking their own health. He moved off and left them to take care of birds.

Its a father son duo on the roos. They are magnificent beautiful huge birds. I don't know history of if they came from a hatchery or not but a couple if the hens and the older roo are the biggest chickens I've ever seen. I'm a tall girl and they are over knee high on me. On a side note I told him when they eat the two bags of food they came with he has to buy the feed. ...some how I think they will out eat the D'anver.

My Light Brahma hen died at around 5 1/2 years old from cancer. Her Buff "sister' is still large and in charge around here. I did once have a Lt. Brahma cockerel sexing mistake from Ideal and sold him at about 15 weeks old. He was so sweet. I just love that breed. They have no trouble with heat or cold and lay big roundish eggs.

Can anybody tell me what color our D'anver is? We bought a boy and two girls last September for our daughter to take for 4H. I cannot remember what color we were told and I got a new phone that no longer has the contact information for the guy we bought them off of. I'm thinking self blue, blue or lavender but I really don't have any idea. I'm thinking she may need to know this for fair. He looks more like the bottom picture. The top picture, I used my flash. Your opinions are appreciated.
