It's that time again! Hey, Aubrey! This week, Aimee started laying again and I got an egg from that slacker, Sissy, my 2 year old hen, who probably hasn't laid in 9 months to a year. I had just told KEpp (Karen, who has a porcelain pair from me) that mine just never laid and I guess they took exception.

I have only 5 hens now and my original porcelain rooster, Aubrey, your namesake, and his mille split spur-less son, Spike, with them. I lost Wrong Way Lucy with the short legs recently, not a clue why, she just started going downhill and passed away. I miss that little imp. She was about 4 years old and had not laid in almost 3 years that I'm aware of so there may have been issues with her, but then again, her mother, Penny, one of the original mille hens, hasn't laid in about 2 years herself. Mine just do not lay, though the hens are the best pocket pets EVER. Last time Aimee laid eggs, she produced three males, no pullets, highly unusual for Aimee, all with either full feathers on the legs or with stubs, which I rehomed. She is the most energetic hen and the only one I can count on to lay periodically. Mina, her daughter, was laying for a bit along with her, but stopped again.

The three original Mille hens plus Aubrey are turning 5 years old the first week of April. Spike and Mina are 4 years old and Sissy is only 2. I'm building a big new all-in-one barn for all the flocks and supplies to go into to make life easier so they'll be in there in their own pen beside other groups. Here is the barn-we're working on the inside now, started yesterday to put up plywood on the walls. It's all insulated. Obviously 24x20 wouldn't being to house your flocks, but it will be heavenly to have all mine in one location!

Boggy Bottom Bantams~.

Aubrey, I just noticed today my chocolate mottled rooster is spur less! Completely clean legged like a hen. Have you seen this before? Will it affect his fertility?
My own Spike is 4 years old and spur-less. Does not affect fertility with him, that's for sure! It's a gene that seems to run through some of these.

Thank-you speckledhen. That is good to know. He is a beautiful, non aggressive boy. I want to breed him back to his chocolate mottled mom in hopes of getting more chocolates. I love that color!
