Hello! Our neighbor was given this chicken from a co-worker who had to rehome it because it was picking on their other birds, and apparently she picked on our neighbors birds too so he asked if we could take her. She was our first chicken, but we added some chicks a week or so later, not with her but we did introduce them pretty early on and let them "visit" with each other occasionally so they would be familiar with each other when it came time to integrate them into a group. Anyway, she has been nothing but sweet with us and our chicks! She loves to be held and carried around, we all LOVE this bird, she is absolutely our favorite of the 4 birds, her name is Lucky <3

Since she was a hand me down chicken, we are unsure of her breed. Several people have mentioned she may be a d'Anver, so I thought I would post a picture here to see what you all think! If not a d'Anver, any ideas what she might be? She is quite small, our Wyandotte chicks are 13 weeks old now and they are easily twice her size. She is a great layer, well shaped little cream colored eggs, two days in a row then takes a day off like clockwork. She's black all over with a little greenish blue sheen to her when the sun hits her feathers just right. Her legs and feet are gray.

And without further ado, here is our Lucky Girl:





and to show her petite size, here she is with our 13 week old Wyandotte chicks...



One more tidbit about our Lucky Girl...she used to be a "flyer". Stinker flew out of her coop about a week after we got her, our cocker spaniel caught her. It was awful, so scary! Thankfully she only suffered minor injury, a few lost tail feathers and a couple of hours of shock, but she recovered quickly and didn't have any long term problems at all, that was around the first of January and she's been fine ever since, but that's when we changed her name to Lucky, lol! Maybe that's why she's so sweet with us, we saved her from the dog, and she got a LOT of hands on love and attention for about a week while she was housed in our master bathroom. From that day on, we have been so attached, ha! Anyway, she was quite flighty that day, every time we tried to catch her she would fly off. We have kept her in the coop since then, so no way to get away. Yesterday we let them all free range in the backyard for the first time, but I clipped their flight feathers first. So, she is now missing some of her feathers, although I'm not sure it's noticeable or not as those feathers seem to tuck up under her wing anyway. The middle pic of her in the coop shows her before the flight feather clip.

Do they typically get along well with the larger birds, or did we just get lucky that she took to ours so well? We integrated the chicks into her coop when they were a little smaller than she was, that way she could defend herself if necessary and hopefully they would submit to her since they were smaller and younger. I want to say they were only about a month old at the time. Last question...when we add more, should we get chicks, teens or full grown birds?

i have never had a problem with my bantams and large fowl getting along, the only thing that has ever worried me was when my LF Cochin was mating my teensy tiny d'anver hen and my lil oegb hen, he is probably a solid 8lbs and they are less than 1

it is up to you what age birds, there is always going to be some sort of squabbling to establish a pecking order
i have had hens peck on babies, and i have had them do nothing to them, it all really depends on what you want and how you introduce them

like put them inside hte run in a wire cage so they can see each other, but cant touch, do this for a few days then at night after everyone is on the roost, and them to the roost, but make sure it stays dark so you dont disturb them, then just keep an eye on them first thing in the morning when they start moving around, may even use a baby monitor for this

I think you got 2 whites with some red leakage. The second one almost looks like a red pyle but for his tail to be that white he should be cleaner in the breast, that is what makes me think hes white.
