d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

JJ, those are gorgeous girls! Nice beards and build. I see you've got one with early white, I know not everyone likes that but I do! I know it means more overall white later, but, I find it beautiful. Seeing this range in coloration is really helpful, too. Thank you JJ for chiming in and showing your millies off. You have lovely stock! I'm learning lots. Thank you!

Thanks, I am not real happy with the type on them yet. They look like Ameracanas to me, but I am working on it.

JJ, do you mean they have poofy necks? They select for that in the European birds. Your birds are really gorgeous, in my humble opinion.

Great, great temperament on the chicks I've got! Aubrey, I cannot thank you enough!

Question: Does everyone's adult d'Anvers eat crumbles, or can they manage pellets?

This is our current mini-roo, an ancient OEG Bantam mix named King Alfred. Alfie's been watching over the d'Anver chicks, babysitting them. (They're in a fenced vegetable garden with me during part of the day, and Alfie stands outside the fence, watching them, pretending to eat near them, and calls out "Babies, watch out! Hawk!" every time a butterfly

flutters over them!

I like the color and the heads(beards and necks), I think their backs are too long. They look more long and horizontal(?) rather than the plump, compact more upright posture I want to see. Its hard to put into words.I just think they should be shorter.

I think I understand what you mean, you're looking for them to be a bit more compact, solid-looking. I also appreciate a solid-looking d'Anver!

he means like this

the short back gives them that V ed look instead of the low long flat back... it's a common thing in d'anver hens, and something we should all work on.

yes though mine eat crumbles but can eat anything, they get pelets too and whole corn in the winter, pretty much if they can pick it up, they'll eat it.

The bump thing, eh, maybe maybe not. They sorta look cocky to me, but they'll suprise you too, maybe you wont have too many... I can always use some back if you do haha

Yep, that is exactly what I mean.

Aubrey, thanks for sharing that. Whoa-- look at the upright stance and solid build of the dun quail girl!

How old is she? Will it take my birds a long time to reach that size of being filled-out? She. Is. Stunning!

Guess I'll need to wait to see who's a roo and who's a hen for sure.

I'm so in love, wish I could keep them all! What amazing, unbelievable temperaments they have!

Seriously... one we think is a hen flies to knee height, expecting me to catch her!
