d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

Watermaals are another one of the Belgian Bantams, created in the early 1900's. They are similar to a d'Anver but a little smaller with a crest and a triple spiked rose comb. The are recognized in 6 colors by the ABA but are currently listed as an inactive breed because there aren't any being shown.

Thank You for explaining that for me.

I have Porcelain d'Uccle who were being brooded at a friends I picked them up and was surprised by the color of some of them. The seem to be missing most of the blue and almost completely cream colored. Is this normal? will they develop more blue? they are approximately 4 months old.

Good Porcelain color should not have a lot of the blue, just tail Wings and a small chevron on each feather next to the white tip. 4 months is young to have a lot of mottling showing and if it is not that is a good thing. They should not reach their full potential color wise until their 2nd adult molt. If they show a lot of the blue and white when they are young, They will end up with too much of it when they are older.

Here is an example with millies, the color is easier to see. The brown is the same as the cream color, the black is the blue color and the white is the white.

First picture taken in June.

This picture taken in October the same year.

Rusty and the girls are enjoying some free time. Now he has tried to fight everything, but me and the goats. I have stepped between he and several other roos some of which are LF. I was on other side of the yard when he was fighting with the LF Cochin who is about 10 months. Rusty let me pick him up until he cought his breath. He came through it fine with only a little bruise to his ego. You should see him chasing a turkey.

I will try to get one if it happened again. It was rather surprising and I sure wasn't expecting it. Right now they are in the d'Uccle house and he is crowing his head off. I think he is trying to stake claim. There are 9 of them so he has to at least share if he moves in the big house. lol Then again when he finds the barn he nay like it better.
