haha, yep I have a lot of that these days.

actually I have been wanting to do a video though for BYC buddies and my website.
Might try to get out and do that some weekend, would be a long one though to go threw everything

Ah, geez, I'm an idiot! I forgot that I have two small hens who will be added to this coop so even if I have 4 cockerels, I should have enough girls for them if I want to keep all the boys. My Silver Phoenix pullet and my Ameraucana/Sumatra hen, both small bodied girls, really should be in there since the pen will be covered and those two are fliers. The Sumatra cross's eggs are light beige and the Phoenix's should be larger than the D'Anvers'.

OH YEP,
I have all 3 of those bantam phoenix, banatm sumatras, and of course Lord knows how many d'anvers, egg wise, it's not a guessing game, those 2 are at minimum twice as big as d'anver eggs

Should be easy peasy, then, eh? The Amer/Sumatra girl is about 4 lbs and the Phoenix should end up about the same weight, so both are quite small standards, but the eggs will be way bigger than the D'Anver eggs.

Just wanted to share with everyone that after a rough trip to New England this past Wednesday (shipping box flipped over by PO and 7 chicks squished and stuck under the straw mat) I was skeptical about two of my new babies and wondered about them surviving. Kept them warm and tried hard to get electrolytes into them and had one competely written off this morning. Those tiny little babies pulled through and are running and jumping with the others! I am amazed at how resiliant they are. One of them got pretty banged up an may never be 100% but should be able to lead a normal life on our Homestead. The other was the tiniest and was just stressed from the tumble in the back of the USPS truck and I was really worried because "she" is the prettiest and has the most beautiful Dun Quail coloring. I cannot wait 'til they grow up so I can see their true potential

oh Lord yeah,
Those are monsters compared to these I have, both the sumatras and phoenix are about 30 onces or so, and still lay twice the egg as a d'anver, so those big girls should lay huge eggs in comparison.

Julie, glad all pulled threw that ruff trip for you, ther are tuff little buggers.

I would like to think it was not done by human hands but ingnorance. My guess is the carton was not secured and when the truck took a corner they went sailing. Some people just have no work ethic I guess. I would have had them up the front cab with me if I were the driver. They are little tuffies despite their tiny stature

The kids have been outside lots over the last two days and I've been watching the D'Anvers out in the natural light. Though at first I thought both porcelains were pullets, one has quite a red comb now, even though it's very flat, so I'm sure I have a pair of porcelains. Among the five MFs, I believe I do have three cockerels. So, there will be four cockerels and three pullets in that coop, along with the Silver Phoenix and the Amer/Sumatra hen (if Tiny will be nice to the kids in there--she can be very defensive, being half blind as she is).

I can see that I'll most likely have MF splits rather than any pure porcelain chicks from these for the first go-round. What are the odds that the porcelain girl will be fertile by the porcelain boy with three MF boys in there? Not very good, I'd think, but I'm on no time line to do anything with them. At least I'll have eggs to place under broodies that I'm pretty darn sure will be fertile with all those boys in the coop. If they get too hard on the girls, guess I could rehome one of the MF boys. Maybe one I think is a cockerel will turn out to be a pullet.
