Well if not, I got him late last year and you helped me get him feeling better. As you can see from the pic hes not doing to good. Thats before I posted his pic to you and asked you how to get im looking better again. Well the pic below is him on 5/14/11. Thanks again, love this little guy. Hes a little fiesty bugger now just like you said. Challenges you all the time.! Love it. Has no spurs yet. Any idea when he will. Hes 1 year and 1 month old. Shouldnt he have spurs of do d'anvers not have spurs.?Well enough talking, here is his:

oh yea LCW

I remember him fully. All I can say is wow he looks so much better now. amazing how good care can effect one.
On the spurs, yes they get them. When? well that varies by male to male and line to line. Usually first year birds are just a nub if anything, 2-3 year olds get decent ones.
Most are 1 inch or shorter at all times, BUT my blue quail roos well they get full on hooks. I usually remove them once a year so it doesnt bother their walking and by the next year they'll be 2 inches again. Thank God they arent aggressive.
After the comments to 4HDAD about the color, now look at this one, you can see the variations I was talking about in quail colors. I'm almost 100% sure yours came from a blue quail to blue quail breeding, notice how he is more yellow than reddish brown over all. I have a lot like that too from the blue quails. The blue gene still effects the color a little even on the black versions by bleaching or diluting the red out. I personally have always loved the looks of these paler ones though.

For those interested in removing spurs. On most long ones it's easy. Think loose tooth. Just wiggle it side to side and back and forth a little and the harder outer shell of it will just pop right off.leaving about a 1/4 size inner spur in it's place. The spur grows in cone shapes one over the other, you are just getting the outside shell of it and the inner portion continues to grow. If it doesnt pop right off with a few wiggles, leave it and do it again tomorrow to help loosen it up, usually 1-2 tried gets it but you dont want to force the issue or worse break a leg . They'll come right off with a little time

I realize this board may not be the best place to post this, but has anyone here ever had issues with chicks feather pecking?? The brooder is a 30 gallon stock tank, which I suspect is MORE than enough room for these chicks, who are BARELY a month old. It is just 6 d'Anver chicks and they won't stop pecking!!

Three of them have very noticeable pecking, namely the porcelains, and it is most noticeable on their backs and upper wings. They are not even completely feathered; always have fresh water and full feeder. There is more than enough ambient light in the room, especially in the late afternoon, so I have been turning their heat lamp off during the day because it is the only thing that seems to make them stop. For the past two days I have painstakingly watched to see who may be instigating the pecking when the light is on, but to no avail - they all get involved simultaneously it seems. I have never had pecking issues with any of the breeds I have raised, and especially not with the other d'Anvers I have. They're always the sweetest birds, why are they being so mean??

no d'anvers arent known for that, but here's the usually causes for feather picking
1) to crowded
2) too hot
3) to low a protein feed (feathers are solid portein, they know it and nature makes them crave it)

try
lowering temp bet that's it if they quit when lights off, put a termometer in there and see hot hot it is at chick level, 95 first week lowered by 5 per week or age is average
try adding grass clippings to the brooder, they'll peck them instead
worst case, snip the very tip off the culprits top beak
