They are a related breed; I think they're about the same size, but Aubrey can tell you more about that. D'Anvers have rose combs and are clean legged. D'Uccles have single combs and are feather legged. Those are the most obvious differences in the two Belgian breeds.

boy I'm tired!!

Dont get much sleep now a days either Nottingham.

Cynthia,
I have to agree, they do look a lot better now, finally starting to look like millies.
Hate to say it, but Rufus is you better bird. I like the darker color like Rusty too on mine. But for an over all bird, Rufus has a perfect comb, spiked and good point in back, Rusty has a slick comb and rounded point, would about DQ him in a show. Still would be a good breeder, but his comb is a downer. It will continue to change for another year, but Rufus' motling is apearing to be a lot better too which is another plus, about his only negative and it's just a preference is he is a little pale, I just like the mahogony based birds better like Rusty.
But right now, if I had to keep just 1, based of their over all look, it would be Rufus hands down.

bout the same size

d'uccles have a single comb
d'anver rose comb

d'uccles are feather legged (booted)
d'anvers are clean legged

that's about it

body type is a little different too,
d'anvers are more stocky built than d'uccles

Thank you, Aubrey. Honestly, I was really leaning toward Rufus anyway. Rusty has somewhat of a droopy looking eye as well, though not super obvious except up close. I like the darker color, personally, but yeah, you can't beat Rufus's comb from what I know of what the perfect rose comb is supposed to be. And his overall stance, chest, mottling, etc, seemed good to me as well, based on my limited knowledge. Thanks for your assessment!

Hope you can rest up from all your activities! The heat continues, though seems that we are going to get some slightly cooler weather this week. Hope you do, too!

Aubrey, just wondering, what do you think of Gazpacho and Amelia Egghart? Gazpacho's beard is coming in, Amelia's is still small. He's actually darker than what appears in the picture (not as gray looking) and is just starting to try to crow. Do they have potential? They are just about 6 weeks old now.

for 6 weeks, yes they are looking good, will be able to tell better around 12 though
keep me posted
But yes they both look to be filling out well.
Gaspachos comb looks to me getting the nice spikes and good point in the back which is always a plus.
beards dont really get noticable til 12-16 weeks, so they are looking great for what they have now.
Color is looking good, that grey is just some of the under feathering showing threw I'm sure.

Post 'em back up in a few weeks and let us see how they are coming along. They really change a lot, just look at Cynthia's progress as they have developed.

so far so good though

what's rest??
LOL

That's a new one on me.

Off this weekend thank God, but havent cut the grass in 4 weeks due to all my weekend running, so it is a 5 acre mess right now, guess what I'll be doing....
Following weekend is a tarpon trip already lined up...never ends, then in 4 weeks deer season starts here, dont miss a day of that, enjoy just sitting out there watching them most of the time...

Oh I think I have birds to take care of too some where in the mix

I need about 3-4 of me I think to get it all done, anyone good at cloning?

Crazy Questions
So, my little coon attacked birds are doing well
regrowing their feathers. Because they are blue,
their pinfeathers have a black sheath. Is it okay to
comb and groom them to help get these off, or am
I just crazy like my kids are telling me?
And along those lines, my hen must be the messiest eater,
because her beard fluff is always clumped from getting
wet and dirty.
They actually don't seem to mind being combed,
they nestle down and close their eyes. Or maybe they
just think that if they hold still, the nasty predator won't
eat them.
