d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

seperate pens is always a good idea, though I have never had them draw much blood much less kill each other.
If you decide later on to put them together. Just do it when you can spend a hour or so watching them to be safe. But doing what I do with them, I am constantly moving new males into established breeding pens. Added those two khaki cockerels this week to my dun quail pen they never even bowed up to each other. And one of the dun males is a little, what did they call them....toe rag?

Thanks. The seller want to give him away for free but afraid of no taker so she put in the hen and want $15 for the pair. As much as I love D'anver, I bought it without hesitation.

They are 2years in the making right now.
Yep I love the pyles, but it takes dominate white, just like the goldnecks. Dominate white doesnt exisit in d'anver so they both took an outcross. Used old english on the red pyles to get it in them for that color. Now just steadily working back to type by breeding them back to my bb reds every year. Got a pullet pic is all from last year on my site, she was the original cross so only 50% d'anver, yet looked decent for that. This years will be 75% 90% coming out with rose combs. still all young so will have to see what they shape up like, but each year is getting me closer. 2-3 more seasons should have perfect red pyle d'anvers. From there I'll go on to make various other white versions of stuff.
White tailed reds, white tailed buffs, etc. Actually, now that I think of it, I can start that next year with these goldnecks that are coming in. Them to bb red will give me red pyle and white tailed buff columbians right off the get go

So now I see why they call it rose comb, with that good shot of Cynthia's, you can see it looks like a tiny bouquet of roses on his little head! Neat! I am just learning sooo many goodies on here, just love it!!

And Aubrey I got your message and answered you back, couldn't get the old computer at the cabin to work and when I got back home today, internet was out. I was about to start jumping up and down when it finally came back on.

Have a great night all!!

dtran I would have bought them too even if I had to muster up tears for the DH to get them....in cases such as buys like that I will stoop to tears or the Better to ask forgiveness than permission method. Hahahaha

I don't recall if I ever asked this question, so forgive me if I have, but what do you find is an average (if there is such a thing) lifespan of these little guys? My DH asked me that this morning and I couldn't remember if anyone ever said. Seems like if it's the same as with dogs, little ones may have a longer lifespan than the huge birds like my Orps.

ETA: Rusty's lifespan may be greatly reduced after this morning's antics. He flew right at my face. Good thing there was a welded wire fence in between us for him to hit. What a dufus!

The 1lb menace...that is why I chucked the toerag a couple of feet when I was there. Little pitbull snot that Rusty is but MY Little Love is an angel, notice it was YOU and your mean ole water pitcher he went after this morning...you just don't do it right Cynthia and Rufus needs to come live in Kentucky, in front of the woodstove, watching TV and eating homecooked meals instead of being terrorized by a huge water pitcher coming into his domain.

*snicker*

Aubrey in all fairness, I rarely stoop to the tears (tis not my style) nor di I have to go to the "better to ask forgiveness rather than permission", usually it is "Honey, I want these". Followed by "I figured as much" followed by a "Thank you dear now gimme". Muahahahahahahaha
