yep Julie, welcome and glad you found both this thread and the d'anvers.

If you ever have any questions I will be more than happy to try to help. By the way, from what I can see from the pic, yall did very well in picking a pair to get started, they look great, and congrats on the show too.

JJ I know what you mean,
I left for work and had a page and a half to catch up on, which is GREAT glad to see all the enthusiasum here!!

Do,

If you loose it or anything, I'm just an e-mail away, will be glad to help anyway I can. On all those splits, you will need to band or toe clip them though so you will know who is from what, otherwise it wont work and you'll get Laura Lees see what happens mix !!

with birds that are split ( carrying only 1 copy of a recessive gene...it take two copies, one from each parent to make it visible) You need to know what they have because like in your case, regardless of what you do, they will all be black or cuckoo the first time, without those markings it'll be hard to know.

Laura Lee,

I try haha... it made my head hurt when I first started trying to figure it all out, it takes a year or so of devotion to learning what does what when mixed with this that and the other. Once you get the basics down, know what it sex linked, what is dominate, and what is recessive, you can kinda do the math...then there are cheat sheets on the web for genetics now too that you can use.

Keep it coming everyone ... loving it all

Welcome JulieChick, Ethan and the Selfblues.

Aubrey, they all have the yard and do what ever they want so I will have to go with LauraLee see what happen mix. I work during the day and just collect eggs when I get home so it's impossible to know which eggs belong to which hen. I have 10 different nests in there but they all choose the same nest to lay, even my big hens use the same nest too. Just weird...

LauraLee, I'm very confuse too. I might have to put the silver quails in their own pen before spring come to make it easy on myself

JJ, if you want a suprise pack just order from Ideal, and be suprised if they survive, or if ya get what you ordered. Now ain't that just Ideal.

dtran, we need to fix a good one for Aubrey, and I've already figured it out. Mine are all gonna be running together too, not going to show or anything, just want a gorgeous rainbow of d'anvers in my yard. When I get a new color, I'm gonna put a pretty little bow on it, ship it to Aubrey with a note that says...."Here honey, figure out how I got this color!"

The only problem is, he probably will.

And last but surely not least, Aubrey, you already confused me again, when you wanna say something I can understand, just say something like....How Laura Lee, how's them eggs?
gig.gif

Now I can answer that one.

They are warm and happy at the moment, pacing the floor waiting on day 5 so I can candle.

Glad all is doing well, JJ, did you bring back any goodies for us to see? Put it on here if ya did, always happy to look at d'anvers!!

Laura Lee-- I was kind of disapointed in the number and quality of for sale birds for a show of that size. I did buy a young trio of quail that had real good type but the color is a little off. A pair of real nice whites that have a little age on them, and a pretty little self blue pullet that I will probably put in my porcelain pen. Was looking for millies there were only two trios and they were really old so I didn't get any of those. But I saw a pile of nice d"Anvers in the show hall.
