d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

I see, the rambuncious roosters are the problem. I am going to sell my jersey giant rooster at the swap tomarrow. As far as roosters go he really good, he's just too big to be climbing on the laying hens all the time. But you could always keep the hens. If you scramble the eggs you can't tell how big they started.

Hate to hear that. The way you have beamed about the birds, I am sure it is not a decision that comes easy or because you don't care for the birds any more.

Krish- I was planning on going to the Winston-Salem show but then I found out that is the day I have to go get my Va. poultry testing certification, Maybe the fall show.

Darn JJ, I would love to have meet you in person and chatted some. Maybe next time. I am going to our NPIP class next Saturday, then it will be setting up our birds for testing. So I understand that you need to go to the certification

I have tried to answer this three times and it never submits. I give up.

Now, if this actually posts....I am thinking that the D'Anver coop may better serve us as a retirement coop for hens who don't need a rooster bothering them all the time. Rufus had my big Brahma hens running for their lives in there, so I can't even put older hens in and think they'll be unmolested. My buff Orp hen, Sunny, just ignores them unless they get too irritating, then she thunks them on the head and chases them all over the pen, but she's used to the little goofs. I'm not breeding them, really, or selling hatching eggs as a business and the D'Anver eggs are so tiny, they aren't really great for eating eggs, either. The birds are fun and I adore the little girls (and Angus, who is my buddy), so it's not that I don't enjoy them. I really have. They were a good choice for my bantam breed trial. I still can't think of another one I'd rather have.

I just may be really tired so you probably shouldn't even listen to me.

Oh Cyn, listen to JJ. Keep the hens and send those pesty roos off to feather footed camp

Cyn..you are extremely tired lady...get some rest. You know I will take My Little Love when I get down there for the other babies so no worries there but You love those little snots so don't talk about not breeding them and etc now, especially before you have some rest and time to heal from recent losses.

Have fun, Whittni!

Aubrey never said if he was going to the Dalton show. If he was, I'd reconsider just to meet up with him, but I'm really tired this morning and my back feels like someone wound the spring too tight.

I would never get rid of the little hens I have. I am so attached to those tiny cutie-pies. And I'm hatching more for the boys, who seriously need more girls in there, especially if they're going to go broody in pairs, for heavens sake! The big older hens would be fine with the bantam hens. And I think it would have been fine except for Rufus being so amorous toward Caroline, my Buff Brahma, who probably looks a little like himself to his own eyes. He didn't go after the Lt. Brahma quite as ruthlessly.

Went to a chicken swap meet today to get rid of a jersey giant rooster. Took a few odd and end d'Anvers. It was the wrong crowd only one person even knew what a d'Anver was.

jj

They was all over those little vulture looking showgirls that were there. It's just hard for me to believe.

haha,
I dont know...??? some people kill me on what they think is a big money bird... those show girls were named wrong to start with, there aint nothing showy about them to me...pretty much like JJ said, they look like a fluffy buzzard with mange if you ask me...

That is the sad thing about d'anvers too though, they are so rare in most areas that most wouldnt know one outside a " belgian quail" (what they call the entire breed) if it flew up and spurred them in the face. Those are the same crowds that to them a bb red , mille fleur are the name of the breed.... not old english and d'uccle.....

finally hatched my first goldneck today by the way....
