This bird still confuses me. I am 100% sure the egg came out of my silver quail pen in which there is a silver quail roo and a white hen ( which gives me black chicks) two quail hens ( haven't hatched any of those yet) and two splash quail hens.So given the color of this chick, I assumed it was a blue silver quail.

I took some pictures today, I sure this is a male.

So he should have only one silver gene (unless one of my splash hens has a silver gene) But there is not a hint of red or gold on him.

And then there is this.

Anv Ideas?

JJ,
Those two new ones have to be from the silver to splash, only way it could happen with what you listed in the pen. They should be pullets.
Same with the one you're thinking is a male. Give it some time and be sure what sex it is... should be possible any other way.

Looks like it has Ghoast Barring. From where????? I get that in pheonix chicks from time to time, you'd swear they are creles, but they arent, they hyst get a faint barring pattern to them...

Outside of that, not much help here

Aubrey, thanks for the answer, that is what I was thinking. the one I think is a male is one of the chicks in the picture, It looks to me Like I got a pair that are both the same color, but that don't make sense. Maybe I am jumping the gun on pronouncing it a male, it might just have a big comb and the other one has a small one. Time will tell. Nice pictures you posted, Ikept scrolling down hoping there would be some red pyles.

Here they are!! All 9 hatched! One is still a little wet for its photo shoot so it went back in the incubator to finish drying. These are from my Porcelain roo x porcelain and millie hens I got from BBB last year. The one on the bottom right is mille correct.? Some have darker spots on their head could that be a Colombian gene coming through. I thought for sure the roo was lavender buff Colombian until he developed some spots.

That last chick didn't make it. Insides weren't fully on the inside, very weak. I think that one that didn't grow was also Carly's. Her eggs are super tiny. So, the broodies hatched three each and are doing FABULOUSLY!

Great pics everyone. Headache, so back to bed.
