Interesting. Thanks, JJ.
Here are some pics. The blacks and Carly's last baby are really gooey. Carly's pipped on the wrong end and was zipping then stopped for a couple of hours. She was getting so weak from lack of room to maneuver and we were afraid we'd lose her so we popped the top. Once that was done, she was all over the place, screaming at the top of her lungs. If we hadn't, she have just died from exhaustion. Carly's eggs are so small and to pip on the pointy end was not a good thing.
The blacks were very large, for some reason and had a hard time getting out, though they pipped just fine. Shadow is small for a banty Cochin, so why are some of her babies so big for the egg she lays, especially when sired by an even smaller body type bird? These chicks were just huge compared to the parents they came from and the eggs they were in. The others hatched just fine, no issues. For a while, we thought we'd lose the largest black. It just lay in the bottom of the egg breathing with its eyes closed; the abdomen seemed misshapen, but that was probably from being crammed in that too-small egg, but we left it alone and sure enough, it was on its feet in a couple of hours.
