Okay I gotta tell you all d'Anvers folks about the Pitcher and My Little Love. Cyn had warned me that Rufus does not like Pitchers and I forgot all about that (as he no longer gets abused since he lives with me and I do not scare him with big ole mean pitchers and such)....I was topping the 5 gallon waterer in Pen 2 for the big girls and boys and had a pitcher (gallon and a half or so wide mouthed pitcher) and went strolling by the crate where Rufus and his girls sleep and Rufus must have hit the door at the pitcher and the door opened. So apparently he follows me and the evil pitcher into the pen. I sat the pitcher down on a cinder block to open the 5 gallon waterer and Rufus began attacking the pitcher. I chuckled and poured the water into the waterer and sat the pitcher back down. Well Rufus must have attacked the pitcher again, which was now empty, and it came down on top of him trapping all of My Little Love except his tail.

So as I reached for the pitcher to save him, he jumped up and took the pitcher with him and came back down with the pitcher still trapping him. So I decided to let him and the pitcher fight it out while I finished securing the top on the waterer. Well a fight between Rufus and the pitcher insued....the Pitcher won! Rufus was raising all sorts of Holy Hello with that pitcher and the pitcher would not release him not to mention it had the audacity to deposit all remaining droplets of water it held ontp the head and back of My Little Love. Well can you imagine how ticked off he was when I rescued him from that pitcher? Well he was POd BIGTIME. But he looks at the evil pitcher in an entirely new light now seeing as it whopped him good and held him down.

Sorry but there were no pictures taken during this atrocity but Rufus did put up a good fight but that pitcher is a mean ole thing!

My day...*chuckling*

haha that's too good!!

Cole
looks like the porcelain is getting saddle feathers (pointy ones) if so yes it's possitivly a male
The mille I'm on the fence about, comb and hackle are kinda leaning me male still on it
those darn things are just hard to tell on for a long time

again the Brown red (call it what it is now, lol) looks to be a pullet based off color pattern alone for now.
Yes they often have a darker comb, especially when young, but it brightens up as they age

here's one of it's mamas

well 2 actually, see how they are redder at this age, but yes do still have a darker than normal tint to them

alright, i can never get close enough to the chicks to see about saddle feathers. theyre to dang quick. but alright, this is ok LOL i can live with possibly 2 males and a girl. still got 2 dutch bantam hens and 1 guinea for them to have as theyres till i order some more from you in a few months maybe.
thankks Aubrey. :)

Aubrey, got a buff columbian question. The ones I hatched using a bb red roo and a millie hen are feathering out pretty good now. I noticed the pullets breast is about the shade of a quail breast the males run from black to heavly laced and still kind of dark looking. Which of these should I use in this project? Also the blue red I hatched ( Ican tell it's male) isn't blue, is it a brown red?

Thanks,
jj

That's new to me JJ
I did the same cross to get mine started and you see how they ended up as an F1. Never had one with lacing or a black breast, got some pics?
The hens sound about right, some will have a faint salmon color from the bb's. I've just been repeating the process and picking the best one to lighten up the buff and clean up the back stippling on them. Got some about perfect now.
When they hatch, they should look almost like a pale version of a bb red. Same chipmunk pattern just fainter and not that sharp red stripe on the head.

Boy, I cant believe that chick turned into a brown red...LOL you'd about have to prove that to me,,,haha They start out pretty much solid black like Coles did. You sure there wasnt a mix up of some sorts there, that about had to be a blue red got about 10 in the brooder that started out just like it pretty much?? It could maybe be a lemon blue, but then it should have been about solid blue?? Would like to see it too as it grows either way.

Here are the male buff columbian( while I was catching them I did notice one male with a golden bay breast)

This is the one from the blue red egg

Here is one from one of your silver quail eggs (got 2 like it) I keep hoping to see black feather in the head and tail.

Well while I am posting how are the colors on these ones I made.

Silver quail

I used hatchery birds on the next two. I know I need to go back to a good silver quail again, but I am happy so far.
